It was midday now, and Elijah as well as Luna were walking down the city streets, on their way to the forest.

The forest was far from here, but both of them were fast runners and had amazing stamina.

Because they were enchanted.

"By the way, Luna," Elijah said. "You're an amazing singer."

She gazed up at him, cheeks shading over with a light pink. "Oh, thank you, Lijah."

He smiled and nodded, and they gazed back up and continued walking.

But—all the sudden—Elijah stopped, face growing pale.

Luna blinked, stopping with him. "Lijah?"

He remained silent.

"Lijah?!" she said with more urgency.

He never replied.

Her brows drew together at this, but he just caught her arm and reeled her behind him, making her cry out.

But he just drew a knife from his pocket and aimed it behind them.

Luna's eyes grew when she saw the familiar man standing ten yards away from them.

Elijah's eyes sharpened. "Take one more step, and I'll happily plunge this into that single heart of yours."

Fake Elijah threw his hands up, smiling as Luna remained behind Elijah. "Whoa, you barely even know me and...." He trailed off, the amusement in his gaze faltering.

"Wait..." he said then, eyes raking Elijah, "you're supposed to be...."

He clearly saw that this was the real Elijah, and that his hair was now blonde.

"You can't fool her anymore," Elijah stated. "She now knows which one is me."

The shifter's eyes narrowed. "Fine. I can play this game."

He suddenly threw his head back, and Luna shrank behind Elijah when the shifter's skin darkened to black—like tar—and slipped down like water.

But then it slowly morphed into another form, arms, legs, tail...

Wait... tail?

Elijah's grip on the knife tightened when the shifter's true form came from the sludge.

He was a tall man, but his skin was a dark grey, like a demon. His eyes were the color of blood, and his hair was white, contrasting his skin. That... and there was a long, lizard-like tail swinging from behind him.

"Who are you?" Elijah demanded.

The shifter smiled, baring his shark-like teeth. "The master hired me to get the girl."

"Where have you come from?" Elijah said then.

The shifter just chuckled. "I was a werewolf like you, Elijah... and then... well... things went wrong. I turned, and then I was killed by afraid humans. Though someone saved me, experimented on me, and I became this."

"Ugh," Luna said, "this is why I hate science."

Elijah glanced down at her before looking back up, eyes darkening. "I'm not particularly happy with you."

The shifter laughed. "Oh? Do we need to sit down with the school counselor and have a restorative conversation?"

Elijah's glare sharpened. "You shouldn't have done that."

"Done what?" the shifter said, laughing. "Mess with that girl's pretty little head? It was fun; the look in her eyes when I held her over the balcony, begging for her life, pleading for you to come back."
