"Hey," Max said, kneeling down when he found Luna curled up in a wad of bushes, sobbing into her knees. "Hey, Luna."

She continued sobbing.

He sighed, raking his fingers through his hair as he sat crisscross in front of her. "I didn't mean it. That was very cruel of me. I'm sorry." She continued sobbing. "I'm serious, Luna. You're the sweetest girl in existence, okay?"

She sniffled, breath shuttering. "Really?"

"Yeah," he replied, smiling. "You always put bandages on your teddy bears when they have cuts or splits in them, you always rub Ember's back when she's scared, you're the sweetest girl, okay?"

She pulled her head out from her knees, wiping the tears off her cheeks. "Why don't you like me?"

"I do like you," he replied gently, "I'm just mad at Elijah, and I was displaying it on you, and that's cruel."

Luna sniffled. "I know Lijah did bad things, but... can you ever forgive him? He was just... sad. He wanted someone, and he tried bad things to get them. But he's not heartless... so can you ever forgive him?"

Max sighed. "I mean, yeah, probably. If he's actually changed. But, it's going to take time, okay?"

She sniffled and nodded, setting her chin on her knees.

"Luna?" a man said for behind them, and Max glanced behind him to find Elijah rounding the corner of the building.

He then rushed over to her, kneeling down. "There you are. I thought you went to the restroom." He held out his hand. "Come out of there, okay?"

She caught it, and he helped her out as Max watched this encounter with confusion.

Elijah just guided her to stand, and he brushed his sleeve under her eye, making her blush as he dried the tears on her cheeks.

She gazed up at him when he finished, and he just smiled. "Let's go finish your drink, and we can go back to our campsite, okay?"

She nodded, and Elijah guided her into the building, completely ignoring Max now.

Luna sat at the booth with Elijah, and Ember looked up from her seat and smiled.

As Luna pressed the cup to her lips, Max came back in, slipping in the booth beside Ember.

But Elijah completely ignored him, just kept stroking Luna's hair back.

Her cheeks were a light pink as she kept drinking, and her lashes fluttered in comfort.

"I know you're concerned," Ember whispered to Max despite them listening, "but I think he has changed."

Max never replied, just watched the encounter.
