"Miss Evans take Mr Potter to the hospital wing at once! His leg is broken. Ohh and you both lose 10 points for your department because you didn't follow the rules." I dropped my head. Last year, all the teachers had liked me and they saw me as one of the top students. But now I had already cost my department a lot of points on my first day of school.

I pulled James upright and wanted to support him, but soon noticed that he was a lot heavier than me. There was no way I could take him to the hospital wing by myself. Professor Peterson seemed to realise this too and gestured to Sirius to follow us.

"Black, walk with them and make sure those two don't finish each other off." He shook his head and asked our class to follow him back to the classroom. Sirius and I silently dragged James towards the infirmary. When we were out of earshot, James stood still, forced us to do the same by hanging his full weight and turned to me.

"How did you do that?" he asked, breathless. For a moment, I didn't quite know what to say. This was the first time he didn't address me sarcastically or hatefully.

"What?"

"You tied those ropes around me..." Sirius furrowed his brow.

"Ropes?" he asked. "It just seemed like a standard Leg-Locker curse."

"No," James said as he turned to Sirius. "She tied invisible ropes around me. I felt them cutting into my skin." I cringed. What on earth had I done? But James looked at me with admiration.

"You didn't even have to say the spell. I didn't see your mouth move." Sirius looked from me to James. "We only learn how to cast spells without speaking in our final year," he said slowly. They both looked at me as if I had just told them they were wizards for the first time. I turned my head away. Felt James weight leaning on my shoulder.

"You just didn't realise I was saying anything because you were so focused on attacking Severus." I felt my cheeks burn and cursed my genes for making me blush so quickly.

"I know what I saw," James said and the irritating grin reappeared on his face.

"Come," I said as I tried to lug him on by myself, "I'd like to attend the end of class and it's still a long way to the infirmary."

We walked on silently, but I could see James and Sirius exchanging glances with each other out of the corner of my eye.

When we finally arrived at the hospital wing after ten minutes of dragging a death weight, Sirius and I let James slip away from us, panting.

"What on earth did you eat?" asked Sirius wiping the sweat from his forehead. Madam Pomfrey came walking towards us worried, but from the moment she saw James and Sirius, she remained still and crossed her arms.

"Ohh, it's you guys." James grinned and then immediately pulled a painful face.

"This time it's not his fault, Miss," Sirius said, looking my way. I glared at him menacingly.

"The new professor had us practise in pairs to disarm each other and learn how to duel," I said in a small voice. Madam Pomfrey raised one eyebrow so high it almost disappeared into her hairline.

"Professor Peterson made you duel each other on your first day of school?" All three of us nodded at the same time. She escorted James to one of the beds. I heard her mutter, "With Professor Oakwood, it wouldn't have happened. Who knows what other accidents I will get to attend to this year."

"If it were up to Professor Oakwood, if a butterfly attacked us, we would be eliminated after just one minute," Sirius whispered, looking in her direction with a spiteful glance. I chuckled and Sirius looked at me curiously for a brief moment.
