According to Daniel's mother, a month before his disappearance, there was a suspicious vehicle parked outside of the family home. She attempted to investigate but the man driving the car covered his face with a paper and drove off.Neighbors also recounted witnessing a man looking into the barters house, where the children slept.
Police investigated and created casts of the footprints but their efforts turned up empty.
On the DAY of his disappearance, while their mother was in the store, Daniel's brother witnessed a man park outside their vehicle and stare at them for a while before driving off.
Because of these instances Daniel's family believes he was kidnapped.
Daniel was playing with his siblings at a campsite in Perdido Bay. Daniel seemed to wander off when his family was preparing fishing gear, and his family began to look for him for 10-15 minutes.During the searches for Daniel, both on land and in water, there was little to no evidence of Danny. Bloodhounds were used as well as two alligators being gutted, in case he was eaten.
Both the authorities and Daniel's family believe he did NOT enter the water as he was scared of it, and the authorities turned up no evidence in the water.
Since Daniel was barefoot and the underbrush was thick and spiky, it's unlikely he wandered into the nearby forest.
With virtually no evidence to support an abduction or drowning, Daniel's case remains open nearly 50 years later.
At the time of his disappearance Daniel had brown hair and eyes, had several scars on his fingers and one scar on his tongue. Daniel was also wearing Grey boxer shorts.
