Anna's POV

Vladimir's kisses sent a wave of emotion through me and it engulfed the anger I had been feeling toward him. All I felt was his and my emotions mixed together in my head, one telling me this is wrong the other telling me it's right. For a moment I felt confused until I realized that it was wrong I pulled away and pushed Vladimir away with as much strength as I could get in my breathless state. I sank down onto the floor putting my head in my hands "Anna, why did you push me away?" Vladimir's voice was soft and gentle. I could still hear his ragged breath as he spoke "We shouldn't have done that" I surprised myself with the bitterness in my voice. There was silence, I looked up and saw Vladimir's face. He had no emotion on his face or in his eyes, even his mind held no emotions "Vladimir?" I was worried, I had never seen him like this before. He didn't answer instead he walked out the door. My eyes held the place where he was standing a few minutes ago, I heard the front door slam shut and then I felt his anger for the first time. I got up and walked into the living room it was deserted, Rina and Danila must have decided to clear the area before they got dragged into the fight. I sat down on one of the chairs, Vladimir's jacket caught my eyes. I walked over to it and ran my fingers over the soft material. I was startled by a bell sounding, for a second I wondered what the bell was for then it hit me. Strigoi.

I heard my own heartbeat as realization hit me that Vladimir is out there. I ran out the door not bordering with my jacket, I had my stake gripped tight in my hand as I ran looking for him, I couldn't find him but two strigoi found me in a matter of minutes. I fought and killed them before running again, my arm were full of blood from my battle. I was panicking about Vladimir's safety so I dove behind a tree and allowed myself to go into Vladimir's head. He was with Alexandra and Claire shielding them from two strigoi, the guardians laid in front of Alexandra as she checked them for a pulse. I got out of his head and back into my own, but the moment I saw through my own eyes a strigoi hit me from the side, sending me flying into another tree. I jumped at full speed even though pain shot through my body. I rushed forward, I needed to end this fight fast and get to Vladimir. He was using way to much spirit and I could feel it taking it's toll on him. I hit the strigoi with all the strength I could summon and slammed him into a tree before staking him, the moment he laid motionless I started running towards the garden were Vladimir was holding the strigoi at bay.

Vladimir's POV

Wielding as much spirit as I was holding up a shield as strigoi kept pounding away at it was starting to take it's toll. I might be able to wield a lot of spirit at a time, but everyone has their limit with everything and I was reaching mine with spirit. I wished Anna was with me, but I knew she would be to angry to think of me and to busy fighting to notice that I need her. I reached my limit, I felt the spirit fade and with it all the strength I had. The strigoi moved slow, they knew that we could do no more against them. I fell to the ground my knee's hitting the ground hard. One of them moved towards me, but as it moved towards me, something threw it backwards against the lamp post, he let out a unholy cry. It took me a moment to register what had happened. Anna had come and she looked furious as she moved towards the second strigoi and staked it through the heart in a matter of minutes, he too let out the same cry as she staked him.

I was so captivated by her movements that I hadn't noticed her white shirt was drenched in blood and her hair stuck too her face. She was breathing heavily as she walked over to me "Vladimir are you alright?" I was stunned so stunned at her question that all I could do was nod, she was the one covered in her own blood and had obvious signs of pain in her eyes and yet she was more worried about me than herself "Anna" Alexandra said after a few seconds of silence between Anna and me "Yes your majesty?" Her voice didn't betray her, whatever pain she felt, she was able to hide it well "How did you know we needed help?" Anna's eyes met mine "I'll always know" Her answer didn't answer Alexandra's question and made no sense to her but it made a lot of sense to me, she'd always come to my aid when I needed her the most, she'd always be there. She helped me up, but the moment she got upright she spun around as a third strigoi came out of nowhere and hit Anna before she had any time to even go for her stake, she flew into one of the palace walls and fell face first into the ground. Suddenly nothing not even my limited use of spirit could stop me from defending Anna, she was important to me and I was not going to let a strigoi take her away from me.
