"OH NO, I'M LATE — AGAIN!"

I looked up from where I was sitting in Trein's classroom to see a boy with white hair frantically bound into the room. He was extremely disheveled; the headband wrapped around his forehead was crooked, and the cardigan he wore over his uniform was on the verge of meeting the floor.

"Well, Mr. Al-Asim, I can't say I didn't expect this; considering you're late to everything. You are probably the only one tardier than Letifera, but I don't think that is much of an accomplishment. Take a seat." The professor ordered, sitting at his desk in front of me.

I turned back to the paper I was writing on, my pen sitting comfortably in my hand. It was a report for potionology, and it seemed to be going pretty well; it was one of my favorite classes, and Crewel practically loved me.

"Aw man, I'm so sorry, the time slipped my mind — "

"If you value your grade, you'll sit down and be quiet."

The boy shut his mouth and took a seat. Right next to me.

I slowly looked up, and gazed around the classroom to confirm — the entirety of the desks were free, yet the guy chose to sit adjacent to me, on my left. Why? No clue.

Sparing a glance at the boy, I recognized him; a sophomore like me, and a housewarden, named Kalim. From what I'd heard these past (almost) two years, he was practically some untrained puppy his vice warden was forced to keep on a leash. Man, I'd hate to be that guy.

Kalim looked excited. Too excited. This was detention, so what the hell was that goofy grin on his face for?

Trein remained silent, seemingly grading papers at his desk. I followed suit and continued writing my report.

Suddenly, I felt a small tap! on my shoe. I furrowed my eyebrows and looked down to see another shoe near mine. It slowly retracted and returned to its owner, and my eyes followed up to meet Kalim's.

He smiled at me, and leaned in close to me, "Hey, what are you in here for?" He whispered.

I scowled, "I was late this morning." Returning to my report, I tried to ignore the boy's looks.

I couldn't ignore him any longer when he picked up his desk slightly and moved it closer to me. I gave him a "what are you doing!?" look, but he continued. In a moment, our desks were practically touching.

I turned to him, but he spoke first, "I was late too, but only by a minute! ...okay, maybe it was like 30 minutes, but whatever! Anyways, what's your name?"

I frowned and looked over to Trein, who was focused on his activity and hadn't spared us a glance. Lucius glared at me, and I rolled my eyes. Looking back at Kalim, I answered, "Y/n."

The boy grinned widely, "Oh, yeah! The housewarden of the new dorm!" Being a little too excited, his voice slightly raised and I panicked, quietly shushing him and making sure Trein didn't hear. He didn't, thank god, and I turned back to the boy next to me.

"If he catches us, it's detention for a month."

He covered his mouth and apologized, "Sorry..." he said quietly.

I chewed on the inside of my cheek, "It's okay... just don't get me in trouble, okay?"

He eagerly nodded, "Got it."

I grabbed my pen and kept writing my report, noticing Kalim fidgeting with his magic pen, seemingly bored and having nothing to do. I glared at him from the corner of my eye for distracting me but tried to focus on my paper.
