In the morning I got up at seven. I went and got a shower, dressed in nice clothes, ate breakfast, brushed my teeth, then did a little makeup. I went to the living room and picked up the paper with Natalia's number on it. I dialed her number and she picked up promptly.
"Hello." came a voice on the other side.
"Hi, this is Lydia. Is this Natalia?"
"Sure is. Have you made your decision?"
"Yes. I have."
"Wonderful. What is the verdict?" Natalia asked.
"I'll come with you guys to bail him out." I say.
"Thank you!" I could hear Natalia's happiness and relief. I hear her relaying the message to someone else; I figure it must be her boss she's telling. "Would it be okay if we pick you up at twelve to go to the police station? That gives you about three hours to get ready."
"No need. I'm already ready. Also, I'd like to drive myself, thanks for the offer though." I tell her.
"Okay. Be there by 10 then? Sound good?"
"Yes, that works with me. Goodbye then, see you soon." I say.
"See you soon." Natalia says. I hang up and groan. Today is my first actual day here. My boss has assigned me seven days here, three of which I have for vacation and four for work. I wanted my first day to be a vacation day so I can get more comfortable and settled in here before I start my work, but I guess I'm doing this now.
I decide to not waste any time. I told her I'd drive myself, because I don't want to risk getting kidnapped, but I don't even have a car. I took the train here. I type into my phone the nearest car rental location. A result comes up telling me that there's one about ten minutes away by foot. I grab my purse, check if I have enough money, and head towards the door. As I'm about to open the door, I remember to check the tape. It hasn't moved at all. Good, no one entered or exited.
I check out of my hotel for now and start my walk to the car rental place. I don't know this city well, so I keep my guard up. There's a good number of tall buildings. This is the suburban part of Trelaire City, so it's luckily less busy.
When I finally arrive, I speak to a guy at a desk. He tells me about their policy and asks if I have a preference for what car I'd like to rent. I ask for a medium sized car. He leads me to the medium car area and lets me walk around and find a car. I pick a silver car, pay him, he gives me the keys, and I roll out.
I drive to the police station. As I pull into a parking spot, I realize I have ten minutes until we're supposed to meet, so I play some games on my phone in the car while listening to music. After a bit, I see a black car enter the parking lot and park. Out comes Natalia and a man, who must be her boss. I turn off the car and get out. I lock it as I walk towards Natalia.
"Natalia!" I call. I have to pretend that I'm content being here and that she's a good person, though I just want to walk away.
Both her and her boss's heads turn to look at me. Natalia curtly waves and I approach them. We walk to the front of the police station and before we enter, she introduces me to her boss and her boss to me. "Lydia, this is my boss, Farlen Geppard. Mr. Geppard, this is Lydia Silverine."
"Hello there Mr. Geppard." I greet him.
"Hello Miss Silverine." Mr. Geppard says.
Farlen Geppard looks like he's in his fifties. He's not much taller than me or Natalia. His black and gray hair is slicked back, it looks like men's hair from old movies. His dark brown suit is nicely ironed, and he wears a light gray sweater underneath. His forest green tie is tucked into his sweater.
