The next morning I woke up to an aching body. My head hurt and my eyes were swollen even though I didn't remember crying. Every little particle that my body consisted of glued me to my bed. I really didn't want to get up.
The worries from yesterday were still piled up on my mind, not properly processed in 4 hours of sleep.Yesterday, I'd found Daisy in our room who'd been overly worried about me because I hadn't returned with the others. She and the other maids mostly hadn't actually witnessed the attack but through the few that had been there the stories had spread like wildfire.
I watched Daisy as she put her hair into a ponytail while dressing myself. I put my hair in two braids, pinned them up and called it a day.
"Do you think it's going to happen again?" Daisy asked while linking her arm with mine. We were strolling into the direction of the rooms we needed to clean without having the motivation to actually arrive there.
I thought about the question for a moment. An attack of that kind had been unheard of. Academies were sacred grounds under strict protection. Obviously that hadn't been enough but with yesterday I'd guess that the school would take even greater measures.
"I'm sure it'll be fine. The outer wall will be fixed today and then nobody will be able to enter again" Daisy had been more anxious about the happenings than me. Maybe it was the fact that I'd actually witnessed everything and didn't rely on gossip. Or maybe it was just in her busy nature.
As a second thought I added "probably it has already been fixed" to further reassure her when I remembered Sir Ashdracon's words from yesterday.
She slightly bumped against me playfully. "You're right. I shouldn't think of it anymore. Let's just think about what we're going to eat for lunch, I'm already so hungry..." she babbled while something else caught my attention.
When we left the maid's wing I caught sight of a piece of paper that was stuck to the wall. It was a notice that was informing about some sort of tournament. Before I could read further I heard a shrill voice yelling "What are you doing! You're late".
I turned around to face Lady Thatcher who was standing in the doorway that we'd just left from.
She had her brows furrowed while scrutinizing us."I've not heard anything bad about you yet but let this be the last warning. No slacking off!" she hissed angrily.
"I might as well ask our guests now, come with me" she ordered. I swallowed. Although I was sure that no one had to complain about me or at least I hadn't seen any dissatisfaction from anyone I didn't want to spend any time in the proximity of her.She walked past me and we followed her up the staircase until Daisy had to go.
I sent her a sorrowful gaze before letting go of her hand dramatically. I mouthed a bye which she returned pitifully before leaving to go to her rooms.Heavy footsteps were the only sounds heard except for Lady Thatcher's harsh breathing. Even though I hadn't been here for long I'd adjusted to the long way after all of the times I had to go to the laundry room and back upstairs.
