I was just finishing up the final touches of my makeup before putting on my costume when I heard my phone ring. I quickly picked it up and saw that it was Tara calling me.

"I'm just finishing up, I'll be at the party in like- fifteen minutes give or take? You can walk over without me, I'll meet you there." I say, putting my phone on speaker so I can multitask.

"Alright, I can just wait inside your apartment, I don't want you walking over alone during this time of the year at night. Besides, Im literally in the apartment below yours." Tara replied.

"Alright...I just don't want you to be late considering you prefer to be early and stuff, I'll try to speed up."

"Ah, don't sweat it nic, I'll see you in a few."

"See ya" I reply, hanging up the phone and putting my full attention back on my makeup.

On my way to my room to change into my costume, I heard the landline ring. Odd, usually everyone just calls my cell. I let it ring for a hot minute before picking it up. No caller ID.

"Hello?" I say, looking through my closet for my costume.

"Hello there Nicole." The voice answered.

"Oh, ha-ha nice joke Mindy, real funny, me and Tara are going to be at the party soon I can't believe you're so bored without us," I reply pulling my outfit out and setting it on my bed.

"Oh, I'm sure you wish it were Mindy." The voice replied eerily.

"Ok...then who is it? Chad? Anika?" I ask confused.

"I sure hope you've locked your doors, Nicole, there are lots of weirdos active around this time of year."

"Freak..." I mutter while frowning, quickly hanging up and making my way over to my front door, but before I get there it opens. I let out a small scream before noticing it was only Tara who was dressed up as a pirate.

"Nicole? Jeez you scared me, are you okay?" Tara asks quickly whilst walking in and closing the door.

I place my hand over my heart and take a deep breath in before replying, "Yeah I'm fine- just startled by a prank call I suppose."

"Prank call?" She asks.

"Yeah, you know one of those Ghostface ones, I'm pretty sure it was Chad or someone else," I reply walking to my room.

"Are you sure?" Tara asks while following me.

"No...but I'd like to believe it's him," I answer warily, grabbing my costume.

"Ooh, nice costume Nic, never thought you'd be the one to dress in something so risqué" Tara teased.

I decided to go as Alice, and I'll admit, the costume was a bit scandalous you could say. It was a short blue, frilly dress with knee-high socks and I paired it with converse.

"Just go wait in the living room I'll be out in a minute," I say while rolling my eyes and closing the door. I quickly slip on my outfit and make the final touches to my hair, like adding a bow before walking out the door.

"Alright I'm ready!" I say, stepping out into the living room and doing a little spin to show off my costume.

"That costume suits you so well!" Tara said while standing up.

"Why thank you, yours does as well!" I speak, smilingly at the compliment.

As I go to grab my jacket off the rack I hear the landline ring again. I look at it for a minute before ultimately grabbing my jacket and following Tara out the door.
