I woke up to the sound of steady beeping, and the feeling of someone's hand on mine. I slowly open my eyes to see Samantha sitting in a chair next to my bed, with her eyes closed and her hand over mine. I look around to take in my surroundings and quickly come to the realization that I'm in a hospital, and that's when the memories come flooding back to me. Ghostface in my apartment terrorizing me and throwing me off my balcony. My heart starts to race at the mere memory and the beeping starts to become more frequent, waking up Sam from her peaceful sleep. Her eyes snap open and she looks at me with concern.
"Hey hey, it's ok, it's ok! You're safe now." She says reassuring me and my heartbeat starts to go back to normal.
"You have no idea how scared I was, Sam..." I say, my eyes starting to tear up.
"I'm so sorry I didn't pick up" Sam starts before I cut her off.
"It's okay, you couldn't have known," I reassure her.
"What did the doctors say?" I inquire after a moment of silence.
Sam took a deep breath before answering, "They said that you were lucky to have fallen on the couch otherwise you would have been injured much more than you already are, or you could've, you know...died." She paused before continuing, "They took you into surgery and fixed your wounds. Luckily, they weren't super deep so they should heal pretty quickly, but they'll scar over. They're giving you oxygen and fluids right now to make sure you remain stable, and they recommend you stay for a week, but I figured you wouldn't want to be here for that long so they said the soonest you can leave is the night after tomorrow. We're all going to have a sleepover then to make sure you and everyone else remain safe."
"You know me so well Sam, but two days here? Two days is so long, especially in a boring hospital" I mutter before asking, "How did they let you in?"
"When the paramedics showed up, I told them you were my cousin, they believed it." She answered with a smirk. "Do you want me to let everyone know you're awake now?"
I nod and then hear a knock at the door. Sam gets up and opens the door, showing a police officer.
"Hello Samantha, do you mind if I ask Nicole some questions? It's standard procedure." He asked with a kind smile.
"Oh um, yeah yeah, go ahead," She said letting him in, "I'll be right in the hallway Nic, your inhalers on the table if you need it."
I nod and shoot her a smile.
Detective Bailey closed the door and sat in the chair Sam was sitting in.
"Hello Nicole, how are you feeling?" He asked gently.
"I'm...alright, doing as fine as I can based on the, you know, circumstances," I reply with a small smile.
"That's good, that's good, could you tell me the events that happened during the attack or anything that could give us an idea as to who could've done this?"
I nod, "I was getting home from a frat party, already having a bad night, when I heard the phone ring. I picked it up and Ghostface answered...we were talking for a bit before he broke through my window and attacked me, which was kind of my fault since I provoked it a bit" I said with a small laugh, trying to lighten up the situation.
"Oh really?" He asked with a smile.
"Yeah... he threatened me when I said I was going to hang up, so I said, 'or what, you going to jump through the window and stab me?' as a joke- but...I guess he took it seriously!" I said, trying to stifle my laughs.
"I don't even know what to say-" he said in response.
"Yeah- I try to lighten up dark situations and I guess Ghostface doesn't have a sense of humor, huh? Not that he could laugh anyways, since you know, the 'stuck screaming' face mask he has on." I reply, smiling slightly. Jokes always make me feel better.
