Annabeth POV
When I saw Percy falling over the ledge, I couldn't breathe. Tartarus flashed through my eyes as all I could think of was the endless pit he was about to fall through alone.
No.
He will not have to go through that. Not when he refused to let me suffer.
In a split second, I lunched towards the window and allowed myself to fall over the ledge. I grabbed onto Percy's outstretched hands and tried to hold onto both of our body weights by the windowsill.
"Annabeth, let go! Don't do this!" Percy screamed, from his dangling position. We were sixty floors above from the ground. This wasn't like the gateway arch. Percy didn't have a water source to save him this time.
"Like Hades I will Seaweed Brain. I'm never letting you go, remember?" I shouted back.
"This isn't the same thing! There is no pit we can try to survive!"
"I see no difference," I insisted.
It was getting so hard to hold the two of us. I could feel my hands slipping from the ledge and my grip on Percy getting weaker.
"Annabeth, take my hand! I can pull you up!" I heard. I turned my head to see Steve standing there. He grabbed onto my wrist and was currently the only thing keeping us from falling. He started to slowly pull us up, with the help of the other members of the team. I was just over the ledge when I heard a scream.
The griffins returned after they saw that their plan had not worked. They were flying at a frightening speed and shooting straight toward Percy.
In the last second, one of the griffins took a jab towards Percy's torso, and he let go of my hand.
And he continued to fall.
I screamed as Steve grabbed me to hold me back.
No! This cannot be happening!
I tried to fight him, I was kicking and screaming to escape his grasp.
All of a sudden, a flash of black flew in front of my face and lurched itself out of the window.
Tony Stark jumped out of the window, his suit still materializing around him, and flew towards Percy.
And managed to catch him at the last second.
Oh gods. Oh gods.
He was still alive.
I ran over to give Tony a huge hug.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you so much!" I sobbed holding onto Tony tightly after he placed the unconscious boy into the ground.
Tony looked shaken, but he just nodded and awkwardly gave me a hug back.
"He's alive," Bruce said. "But he's just unconscious for now."
That's fine. That's fine. We can deal with that later.
Him being alive is enough.
