The girls felt the gentle breeze caressing their faces while sitting in the gazebo near the pond, while the geese grazed the vegetation at ease. The birds chirped in the background, giving a lovely ambiance to relax.Chester happily grazed around, letting his nose inhale different scents. His ears were forward as his gaze was locked into something that caught his attention. His figure darted at it, leaving the girls behind. Wondering what was happening, they got up and went to look for him.
"Chester!", Charlotte called out. It didn't take long for him to come back, his ears drooped sadly. "What's the matter? You didn't get the squirrel?", she asked him.
Chester let out a whine. "Don't be too sad boy. Maybe we could go hunting this year," she patted his head as his tail wagged. "Say, maybe we could go on a hunting party? What do you guys think?", Charlotte asked her two friends. Rose groaned.
"What's the matter?", Jane looked over to her.
"I hate to see animals being hunted for fun, which is why I stay behind with my mom while my dad has his fun", she pouted while her arms crossed. "You're so silly Rose, it's not only for fun, but it's a good time to learn how to catch your food if you get lost in the wilderness or plan to live in it. I think it's fascinating how people know what to do while on the hunt," Charlotte explained."Since the warm months are arriving, maybe we can catch some ducks and roast them for dinner," Jane's face lightened. "Hm, I don't know," Rose was skeptical about the idea. "Come on Rose, it won't be that bad. Here's an idea, if we all go on the hunting trip, we could have a picnic together. Besides, I think Winston and Winnie would love if you join, not only us, but to join Chester and Midge on the hunt," Charlotte suggested.
Rose's face brightened at the thought. "Hmm, I guess I could go on a hunting trip", her mind was less skeptical, yet she felt happy to know that she would be together with her friends. "Alright, it's settled then. I'm sure our fathers would love to come together and show off their skills. It's been awhile since the three of them have been together", Charlotte clapped her hands.
"Ah yes. What a splendid idea!", Jane smiled. "Alright, enough about hunting. Let's get to the picnic idea. What should we bring?", Rose inquired. "Well, I could bring some cakes and cucumber sandwiches", Charlotte replied. "I could bring blancmanges and maybe some fruit turnovers", Jane added to the idea.
"That sounds scrumptious. Hmm, I'm not sure what I should bring. All of those food ideas sound good," Rose let her thoughts sink deep. "You could bring some candy, or maybe another pastry. How about Lemon Tarts?", Charlotte suggested her idea. "Tarts it is!", she grinned.
The girls knew that Rose's maid was a wonderful baker. Though Ms. Anne was good at making pastries and making delicious food, her maid had a prodigy of baking. "Splendid!", Jane chimed, letting out a wide smile. The girls continued chatting and laughter echoed in the air.
When they arrived, they entered inside the mansion, fiddling with the cats. Mr. Wellington arrived at the mansion after a long hard day at the factory. His mind was so busy that he caught sight of Charlotte and her friends. In a surprised gaze, they welcomed him.
"Good afternoon Mr. Wellington!", they both greeted in response. "Hello, you two. Hello, my dear Charlotte", his lips curled. "Papa, we've been thinking about something. How about we go on a hunting trip? Since the warm months are around the corner, many birds are migrating here for the time being. Maybe we catch a few trophies and make a roast?", Charlotte inquired, having her head tilted as she waited for her father's response.
"A hunting trip you say... well, I would have to talk to my fellow friends," he replied with a grin.
The girls smiled at each other after hearing his response. He left them alone to continue their time together when two carriages stopped by the mansion, and footsteps began to clasp against the brick road.Mr. Wellington greeted the two men in joy.
