little lights

beacons of

escape


surrounded by stalks of yellow

that reach for the 

sky


cracked asphalt and

burnt rubber


moonshine reflected off a cheap

metal fence;

there was no sign of life across the field


i looked up, extended my fingers, and

felt the freckled sky.

i grabbed the moon


that night, i saw the

whole world
