In the land of monsters and magic, the people of Therianthropy were individuals with the immense power of shapeshifting. The most powerful shapeshifters in the world as many knew them. Despite their powerful ability to shapeshift into any being at will—that was the extent of their power. Unlike the Metamorphmagi and Animagi, the Therian people had no magic.
The Therian people may have had no magic, but they certainly held something even more valuable to many wizards and witches. Wizards and witches of the years often sought after the blood of someone with the ability of Therianthropy; for the blood of the Therian held in it something impossible.
If a witch or wizard was to consume all the blood of a Therianthropy then they would be granted the gift of the Metamorphmagus—a gift someone typically had to be born with.
It was for this reason that the Therian people were hunted throughout the ages, and slaughtered by people of magic for their blood. On the brink of extinction, the hunting and murder of the Therian people was eventually outlawed. However, that did not stop many magical people from illegally hunting and poaching them.
Mavka was one of the few people of Therian left in the world: her tribe was slaughtered by the hands of poachers. Finding an unlikely ally in perhaps the kindest wizard she ever met, Newt Scamander, she lives in his sanctuary under the guise of being a normal wolf he rescued.
However, when complications such as Mavka accidentally becoming his familiar and him smuggling her along with the rest of his traveling creature-sanctuary into New York illegally get thrown into the mix—things start getting weird. Especially when it becomes apparent that her relationship as his familiar is not a typical one, not when she is no ordinary magical beast.
However, it will only take so long before Mr. Scamander catches on that something is not quite right with his beloved familiar.
