•Ellie had been so caught up in her jobs. The stress was worsening. Even on her days off, she would still be tensed. Gabby tried helping with it, but nothing worked. All the stress got to her brain, making her forget a lot. Little memories and big ones.
One of those memories being their anniversary.
Gabby had planned a special night for them. Even though Ellie would have to work the next day, she thought the least she could do was cook Ellie's favorite food and buy her a couple of things. She spent the day shopping and cooking. Gabby was a bit extra when it came to events. Big or small. The living room and kitchen were decorated with a bunch of anniversary decor.
All the decorations were set up. The food was cooked and served on two plates. Now, all she had to do was wait. Ellie should be home any moment.
5 minutes later, the door started to unlock. Gabby went into the kitchen to surprise her. The door opened, a tired ginger standing in the doorway. Her eyes were drooping, but they averted back to normal when she saw the decorations. Ellie stepped in, closing the door behind her. After looking around for a bit, she put two and two together. She forgot about their anniversary.
Shit.
Ellie went to look for Gabby. Starting with the kitchen first. There she was, sitting down at the table with a big smile. Gabby turned her head to the ginger. "Hey Ellie! Happy anniversary!"
The ginger face palmed herself, letting out a groan. "Something wrong?" Gabby looked worried. "I'm fine. It's just.. I forgot about our anniversary."
Gabby looked disappointed but understood that Ellie had to juggle two jobs. Something your average Joe can't do. "Don't worry, I'll make it up to you tomorrow. I work overnight tomorrow so we can spend the day together."
"No."
"No? What do you mean?"
"I want you to call off tomorrow. I want to spend the whole day with you. I'm tired of only seeing you during certain parts of the day. Please call off."
"But, I need to go to work. Who's going to pay the bills?"
"US!" Gabby empathized the word. "We can both pay the bills. I work as well, and I also get checks from the government for my schizophrenia. We're financially stable. Why don't you quit one of the jobs?"
"Because neither of them pay well."
"Well, how about tomorrow after you make it up to me, I help you find a decent job."
"I would love that." Ellie gave her a tired smile.
"Alright, enough of the chitter-chatter, let's eat! I made your favorite."
Ellie sat down at the table and began to eat with Gabby. The food was amazing. Everything was perfectly prepped and cooked. After the two finished, they cleaned up the kitchen and headed to their room. A medium gift, wrapped in teal wrapping paper, sat on the bed. "Is that for me?"
"Yep, open it!" Gabby said, ecstatic. Ellie slowly unwrapped. The tone in Gabby's voice signified that she was proud of what she got her. Yet, Ellie was still cautious. The pale women opened the box that hid what was inside. A familiar looking dress. Soon, it hit Ellie. This was the dress she had found online. She wanted to buy it but there were more important things to spend the money on.
"How did you know I wanted this?" Ellie's eyes were bulging. You would have thought they were about to pop out the sockets. "It was in your shopping cart sooo.."
Ellie tightly hugged her, then gave her a kiss. "I'm gonna try it on." She took the dress and went to the bathroom. A few minutes pass, and Ellie comes back to the room. "So, do you like it?"
"I love it!" Ellie beamed with glee. "I'm glad you do, it suits you."
"Once again, thank you so much. I'm going to go change and take a shower." She informed, walking off back to the bathroom.
20 minutes later, Ellie comes back to see Gabby sleeping. She puts up the dress and then lays next to Gabby. Tonight was different, Ellie was able to fall asleep quicker than usual.
The next morning, the first thing Ellie does is call her boss and tell her she can't come in today due to her "extreme sickness." Next was to get dressed and wait for Gabby to wake up. She spent the time watching TV in the living room.
Lucky Gabby was a morning lark. She woke up in a matter of minutes. With Ellie not laying next to her, she thought Ellie went to work. Gabby got up and went to the bathroom to do her daily routine. Afterward, she went to the kitchen but while walking there, she heard the TV. Wasn't it off last night? She went to see what was going on. "Oh!" Gabby said, peaking her into the living room. "You actually stayed home."
"Of course, and plus, I didn't have to go to work until 9 pm. Now, go get dressed, I have to keep my promise." Ellie playfully commanded. Gabby leaped up and quickly went change. She entered the living 10 minutes later, wearing something decent. "Alright, let's go." Ellie walked out the door. The Polish woman followed behind, locking her door after getting outside.
'We should walk. It's not that far from here."
They spent the 20 minutes talking as they walked. Once they made it to their destination, Gabby looked at her surroundings. "A park?"
"I thought we could feed the ducks."
"Oo! That doesn't sound bad. Let's go!" Gabby ran over to the pond. Before Ellie could say something to her, Gabby was already near the pond. "Damn, she is too fast." She walks to the pond. Once she gets there, she hands over the bag. Gabby takes it and chucks pieces near the ducks, watching them eat it.
"I just love ducks! Their pudgy bodies make them even cuter!" Gabby swooned.
"Ha, I can tell." Ellie watched her feed the ducks."
As Gabby fed the ducks, Ellie studied her. Watching every movement and expression she made. Ellie tapped Gabby's shoulder, making her look at the ginger. Ellie kissed her for a second, then pulled back. "I'm truly sorry for forgetting."
To be honest, it didn't take much for Gabby to forgive her. Hell, she wasn't really that mad about Ellie forgetting their anniversary. It was understandable that those two jobs drained her mentally and physically. After the bag was empty, Gabby looked at her. "Ready to go?"
"Sure."
Gabby went toss the bag into a recycling bin. Then again, they made their way back home. Ellie opened the door and plopped on the couch. "Don't get too comfortable, I still gotta help you find a better job." Gabby said, closing the door.
