Fourth had managed to convince Mae Gim to  go for a health check-up. At first, she refused, saying it was just a little migraine. She gets them from time to time, especially when she doesn't get enough sleep. Fourth wasn't allowing it, though. He literally begged her down on his knees with glassy tear filled eyes. Seeing how pitiful he looked, she had agreed.

Fourth has no regrets about literally begging Mae Gim to get a health check-up. He didn't want to leave anything to chance. He couldn't afford to lose her. Gun couldn't afford to lose the only family member he has. He would do it again if he had to.

It was a good thing, too, because Mae Gim ended up being diagnosed with meningioma located on her skull. The doctor said that meningiomas are usually benign and slow growing. Usually, treatment is not needed, and the person can live a long, happy life with one. However, that was not the case for Mae Gim. Hers was allocated on her skull near the brain and growing rapidly, which could prove to be fatal.

The doctor recommended two treatment options. The first one is surgery for the total removal on the tumour and the other one being radiotherapy, specifically stereostatic radiotherapy. Apparently, it is a nonsurgical, high-intensity form of radiation used to treat brain tumours. It can deliver precisely targeted radiation in fewer high-dose treatments than traditional therapy, which can help preserve healthy tissue. It can be used for meningiomas of the skull base.

The doctor left them with those two options to discuss the best treatment option for Mae Gim. The ride home was quiet, Fourth was feeling a variety of emotions. He should've expected this. He knew about it all along. However, it being confirmed brought him such intense fear in him at the possibility of losing a mother and the only family member he has in this universe.

Mae Gim gave him a wide smile and hugged him tightly. Promising him that everything will be okay in whispered reassurances. Fourth wanted to believe that everything would be fine. Everything worked out in the series, but this was real life, and thus, things can happen, and people could die.

When Fourth got into his room, the deity was there, this time in the form of his mother, Mae Pui.

"This is the best I can do for now." The deity spoke with his mother's gentle, soothing voice opening its arms to offer him a hug.

All the composure Fourth held himself with got lost. He walked into the deity's arms and hugged it. It was the same as his mother's loving embrace, had her flowery scent too. Fourth sobbed, holding on to the deity like he was holding on for dear life. The deity continued offering comforting reassurances in his mother's soothing voice.

He eventually fell asleep with the deity patting his hair, gently humming a soothing song. As much as he hated the deities for getting him in this situation, he was very appreciative of the deity for being there for him.

The next morning, Mae Gim had prepared a huge breakfast for him to cheer him up, and he was appreciative for that. Mae Gim was such a great mother who deserved all that is good in this world. Mae Gim set up an appointment a week from now and decided on Stereostatic radiotherapy as treatment after weighing her options. She reassured Fourth that everything would be fine and that she had savings put aside. She was reluctant to use them as they were meant for Fourth's- well Gun's education - but Fourth reassured her that it would be fine.

It was better to have a living mother than money to go to university. Fourth assured her that he would try to get a scholarship and even a part-time job to be able to pay for uni. She was convinced, gave Fourth another hug, and promised that once she was better, she would also help him with paying for uni.

"I love you so much, Gun. You are the best son a parent can ask for. Your father would have been very proud of the man you have become." Mae Gim had said, waving him off to school. Fourth didn't cry but it was a close call.
