Movement to the right,
Footsteps,
splash of water coming east....a soundless heartbeat.
I could see it clearly.
From the ripples of its overbearing muscles, the grayish black tint of its skin, the sharp point of it's teeth, and the ink like black eyes I'm ever so familiar with.
A human turned demon, about a decade old. Must have been some serial killer or rapist.
"Dammit" I whispered in the wind, there was just one.
"Why does Master always give us small ranking demons?" asked Fortis in a annoyed tone, I grinned to her. "If I knew you would too, am I right?" She growled at my sarcastic remark before finally agreeing "...I suppose so"
I bent back my legs and arms into a crouch. I had to steady myself because afterall I was balancing on nothing but a branch.
Fortis was a big help with our link, but all in all she is still a fox, not a cat.
The leaves of the tree helped mix with the darkness of the night which did much to hide my small frame.
Very much to my advantage during the change.
I then felt the ooze of Fortis's blood replacing mine, melting throughout me like water from her soul and quickly sucking back mine. At first it used to hurt like hell, but now it resolved itself to just a minor sting. I winced only slightly when the transition was complete. I was now down to at least thirty seconds.
I looked down at my arms that now beared the black tattoos of my "inner spirit" in the old language. Strong, it read repeatedly down my arms in strange figures. Fortis it said as whispered by my demon itself.
My eyes felt hot from the change and I could probably guess was because they were now a moving spiral of orange and gold. This is mostly why I have to wear my glasses along with my mask. Thanks to Fortis releasing her sight i was going to look like this for a whole week. I could hear her snicker bounce around in my head laughing at her little "joke".
"Everytime I ask you to not release the sight you go behind me and do it anyway! I can see fine in the dark! it's been already been nine years Fortis!
"okay okay just calm down hot head i just wanted some fun-"
"this fun would get us killed Fortis if anyone found out!" I screamed towards her
Then there was silence.
It may have seemed a little harsh but protecting our organization and keeping the humans safe is our main priority. Battles in broad daylight will not go well in our case with anybody. She always knew when i was right and when i was wrong and vice versa. "Two minds think alike but two personalities follow a different path" I remember Master saying during our earlier training. This was pretty much the case with me and Fortis.
She then sighed as she finally gave up and I closed her eyes to silently watch as she went into her slumber, giving me free will of our powers.
This was going to be fun.
I awaited the demon's approach and from under the tree the heat and black mass that oozed from it's putred skin was absolutely revolting. It was surely at least a decade since it was human. I closed my nose
"Here we go" I thought before finally pouncing onto the thing.
