Troy and Kay were staying with their daughter for a few days since they'd flown in from Texas for the funeral. Kay wanted to help her daughter out with cooking and to make sure Kit was going to be alright on her own. The younger woman promised her parents she was going to be fine, she just needed time to grieve her husband. They'd been high school sweethearts, after all, and had been together for years. She wouldn't get over his death overnight, she told her parents. It was understandable but her parents wanted to be there for their daughter as she was going through this difficult time in her life. As she pointed out, they'd been together for years and his death was a sudden shock. Kay did all the cooking and laundry while she was there. When they finally left, Kit sighed with relief. She went back to work and tried to resume her normal life. She filed a claim with their car insurance company and was working closely with the insurance adjuster. They wanted Evan's truck towed to one of their garages so Kit had Teller-Morrow tow the truck for her. Tig, who had volunteered to work on the truck, had already reconnected the brake lines so nothing looked out of place if and when the insurance wanted to do their own investigation of the crash.

The whole time, Kit and Tig were still sneaking off to the sleazy motel at the edge of town for their rendezvous'. It took the insurance company two months of investigation, having the repair shop looking over Evan's truck, and looking over the medical charts before deciding on whether to pay the claim. They totaled the truck which would give Kit roughly fifteen thousand dollars since the truck was so new. She decided to pay off the balance of the truck and put whatever was left of that money into her savings account. The life insurance company had done their own investigation since the life insurance policy was so large. They looked over the police reports, medical reports, checked the truck and finally made a decision. To Kit's relief, she finally, after several months, received a letter from the life insurance company stating that they would be paying on the policy as it was deemed an accident. She sighed with relief. That was more money she could pay off her mortgage, any outstanding debts she had, and perhaps buy herself a new vehicle. There would be plenty to put into her retirement fund and her savings account. She still made good money as a doctor and would be able to live on her income alone with the house paid off.

It was only a few days before both checks arrived in the mail. Once she deposited them into her accounts, it was just waiting for them to clear so she could pay off her debts, move the money where she wanted it, and prepare for her new life. Preferably with Tig. While she waited for her checks to clear, she went out vehicle shopping. She decided since her truck was in such good condition, she'd use it as a trade-in for whatever vehicle she purchased next. After going to a couple different car dealerships, she fell in love with a Metallic blue Ford Escape. It had nice amenities like a back up camera and heated seats. It was big enough for her needs, it was a beautiful color, and it was in her price range. The trade-in took care of the downpayment which she liked. She set up automatic payments until her checks cleared and she could pay off the balance of the new SUV. She left that afternoon with her new SUV and couldn't have been happier. She headed to the DMV to register her new vehicle before heading home for the day. It was early evening by the time she was done with the DMV and didn't feel like cooking. Especially for one, so she stopped by the diner to grab a bite to eat. Chibs and Bobby were there and when the Scotsman saw her, he waved her over to their table.

"Evening gentleman!" She greeted them.

"'ey love. 'ow're ya doin'?" Chibs inquired as she sat down next to him.

"Got my insurance checks today, got them deposited and went and traded in my truck for a brand new SUV." She explained.

"Sounds like a full day." Bobby chuckled.

"Yeah. DMV sucks. But I got the new SUV registered so that's a task I don't have to worry about. What about you two? What have you been doing?" She asked.
