Chapter 16: Love in the oddest of places

Stella began to moan as his fingers fiddled around in all the right places while his tongue danced around on her nipples. After teasing her for a bit, he looked her in the eyes and said"I love you" before gently entering her and thrusting slowly and pulling her into a deep kiss. Once they separated he began to move faster as Stella began to say" I love you too Carson" and then resumed her soft, controlled moans. Their lovemaking went on for a couple of hours before both of them had reached their orgasmic limit as well as dry spots on the beds comforter. After sleeping together this time, it seemed that things were not awkward in the slightest,in fact, Stella made snarky comments in the shower but quickly stopped when Carson threatened to test out her hypothesis.

After showering, they had the comforter changed, ordered room service, and generally enjoyed themselves for the first time in a while but sadly, their energy ran out. Just before they went to sleep that night Stella smiled at Carson and said"Yeah after tonight, I totally agree with you on the career change thing; it was really fun hanging out with you while not working, and I can't wait to make more memories like this in the future". He chuckled and said"Bet on it" before wrapping his arms around his future wife and drifting off to sleep.

In the following weeks after the raid, the police searched every inch of the church and found pictures of mutilated victims, human remains a large sacrificial altar, recordings of their sacrifices, and memos about future operations.= plus much more. This was enough to have all members in custody charged and the church condemned and demolished. In addition, the mayor and governor were also charged with 2nd-degree murder, embezzlement, and treason which prompted their removal and a pending election. During this, Stella and Carson were barred from leaving and took time to see the attractions around California like the navy's museum ships, the beautiful Santa Monica pier and its Ferris wheel, and the observatory. They also went wine tasting, surfing, and skydiving; it was a total blast and it made the two feel young again.

With the victims charged and everyone's roles identified Carson and Stella were finally notified that they were free to leave. The same day that they were notified, they decided to leave and headed down to the precinct. When they arrived, they showed their badges and were sent up to Chief Harris's office. When they entered, the detectives were met by the chief and FBI director Mendez. Mendez spoke first and said, "I apologize for the hell I gave you, as an apology I cleared all your violations and reinstated your licenses to operate if you want to stay". Stella and Carson looked at each other before turning back and saying"No thanks". Stella smiled and said," We've been at this for well over 10 years now and if working together on this case has taught us anything, it's that life is precious and we should make time to spend it how we want to".

Carson said," We're leaving for the FBI academy in Virginia to be instructors there. We're gonna settle down and live a peaceful life and hopefully start a family". Mendez smiled and said, "I can understand that...there comes a time when we all find something new to move on to and experience; look ahead and don't turn back". Chief Harris nodded and said, "Good luck to you both, and thank you for all the help with this case...oh and don't forget to call sometime, I wanna hear from you guys in the future". Stella smiled and said, "We most definitely will sir, you've been like family to us during our stay here and we won't forget it".The two detectives walked over and handed Chief Harris their badges and hugged him before exiting the room.

After leaving the precinct, the two got into their car and Carson looked at Stella and said"Well, our life as civilians starts now, so where to miss?" She chuckled and said, "To the airport, it's time for a change of scenery and pace".He nodded before starting the car and taking off for a new chapter in both their lives.

[2 years later]

It was a hot, sunny morning as Carson woke up first and headed into their master bathroom to brush his teeth. He had woke up late yet again but thank god it was the weekend this time. After getting changed and making the bed, he headed downstairs where Stella was making breakfast hugged her, and gave her a kiss. She chuckled and said, "Let me guess, you had that dream again where you didn't find me huh?" He nodded like a puppy dog before she smiled and showed him the sparkling ring on her finger. She said, "This is real...you did this and this beautiful two-story mini mansion in Virginia is ours obviously".

Carson blushed and said, "Right...I just never thought I'd truly get out of that life...I'm still getting used to it". She said"Well you better get used to it a bit faster cause next month it'll be our turn to clear our chalkboards at the academy and start our paid vacation. I still find the look on the staff and student's faces when they saw two of the greatest detectives walk in and request a teaching job".Carson smiled and said"I admit,it was funny and the best part was they gave us basically anything we asked for because of our history". Stella said"I know but still who'd believe a sick cult investigation,could cause two people to fall in love" Stella shook her head and said, "we're just two weirdos but that's okay...we still got a lot more changin' to do".

He nodded before pulling his Fiancee into a kiss and saying afterward "Well I hope you're ready to change your definition of patience because we're going to see my mother and siblings". She said"Alright but only if you can deal with my family's overprotectiveness; my sisters can be really annoying. Oh, and then after that we're going back to LA, I want to congratulate Chief Harris on his retirement, in person".Carson sighed and said, "even though I don't want to, I will because as long as you're with me I know my life will always shine even in the darkest of places".
