Chapter 1: War Is Over, Fighting Is Not

Six Years After the War

Keith was the luckiest man in the universe, he got everything he wanted. The war was long over, his job at the Blade of Marmora didn't need him as much now that Acxa stepped up and works directly under him, as well as Kolivan and his mom don't need his help with representation for the Coalition. Spreading peace across the universe was going great, and the need for humanitarian missions wasn't in high demand as well as things on earth were going smoothly. But most importantly Keith could just hold his husband beneath and covers and rest, not having to wake up without Lance in his arms, or not having to worry about when he could next see him again, and just not having to worry about Lance 24/7. Keith would still always worry about his husband, but now he didn't have to check if Lance wasn't eating properly, if he got into another fight, or if he had a nightmare, because Keith was now here to make sure Lance would be alright. Lance was safe, looking as beautiful as ever inside his arms. His face buried in Keith's shoulder and arm wrapped around his waist. The fact that Keith gets to call Lance his and Lance calls him his means to the world. Keith had everything he ever wanted, him and Lance somehow figured out their feelings for each other, finally leaving their years long pining stage (thanks to Shiro), Keith gets to call his mom once in a while, he has life long friends, and Keith has an amazing family with two beautiful children, Luna and Taiyo. The war has been over for six years. Him and Lance got married three years ago and adopted the kids a year later. At first Keith wasn't too keen on having kids at all, he just wanted to spend time with Lance and Lance only, plus raising two kids while he is across the universe can be hard. However he soon realized being in a successful relationship (which Keith would never regret starting) can't really function properly if he's across the universe anyways. Keith is pretty content in where he is, and if it wasn't for the horrible event that occurred two and a half years ago, he wouldn't have his two children who he loves from New Altea and back. So about two and a half years ago Keith was on a mission for the Blade of Marmora when he suddenly got a frantic call from Shiro who explained that Lance was in the hospital. Keith still remembers Lance's cries and pleas for him while Shiro handed him the phone, he sounded so scared and desperate. Keith never flew down so fast, when he got there Lance was in the midst of an anxiety attack in the most distraught state Keith has ever seen his husband in. Long story short Lance was attacked by a rebel group of New Altea still loyal to Honvera who almost managed to kill him. They inserted a new drug into his body which made Lance believe that Keith was in danger, replaying his greatest fears on repeat. He was becoming more and more paranoid by the tick until Keith managed to come back down to Earth and assure him that everything is fine. The effect of the drug didn't go away for an entire week. Keith swore to never go on long missions again after this occurrence unless it was absolutely necessary. The attack really messed his husband up, even if Lance would never admit it out loud. Lance tried to hide his feelings because he wanted Keith to still do his job and not have to worry about him, but Keith would always worry about Lance and no job or mission would ever be more important to him then Lance. Lance would always be Keith's top priority regardless of what the Blade wants. Keith managed to convince his mom and Kovilan to allow him to continue his work down on planet Earth with Lance. Eventually after doing some humanitarian work on Earth and training closely with the next generation of pilots, Lance wanted to have some kids of his own. At first Keith was strongly opposed to the idea, but then Lance reminded him that having kids meant that when Keith was away on missions Lance wouldn't be alone. It didn't help that after the war Lance moved away from his family farm. It was good for him to be there in the beginning, but he needed to get away. He needed to be his own person again, and he no longer wanted to be a "burden" to his family. Lance was destined for great things and his talents were needed elsewhere, and as much as he loved his family, they weren't there with him during the early days of the war. They never fully comprehended how hard it was for Lance and couldn't provide him with the support he needed. They didn't have the same goals or ambitions, and as much as they (and Lance) wanted him to settle down, that wasn't who his husband is. Not even Hunk or Pidge could help Lance figure out what he needed, the only person who could truly understand Lance was Keith. It has always been Keith. Lance wanted to be with Keith and Keith wanted to be with Lance. He was more than happy to take time off of work to help Lance, and if Lance asked him for anything he would do it. So when Lance asked to have kids, Keith had no chance denying him that. Keith was as stubborn as they came, but when it came to his husband Keith would always do what Lance wanted, would do anything to see him smile so Keith the stubborn leader of Voltron caved in and adopted two kids, for Lance. Keith knew that having children would be good for Lance even if Keith himself wasn't the best with kids. He would still try for Lance, he would always put in the best effort for his lover. However this was one of the best things that ever happened to Keith. Luna, Taiyo, and Lance were his everything and he would give up anything for them. Keith loved Luna and Taiyo so much, he couldn't believe that he was at first so hesitant on having them. Keith couldn't imagine life without them and his amazing husband. Speaking of his Lance, Keith pulled him closer to his body and placed a kiss on his temple. Holding Lance in the night was his favourite part of the day, Keith always felt safe in between Lance's arms. He knows that Lance will help him and protect him from anything and that he can do the same for Lance in a heartbeat. As Lance began wiggling even closer to Keith all of a sudden they heard a huge crash, followed by many footsteps. Lance groaned as Keith quickly got up, "What was that?" Lance asked, then an even louder crash happened. "I don't know, I'll go check it out. Make sure that the kids are alright." Keith replied, as he grabbed his sword from beneath their bed and ran out of the room.
