"𝐈𝐭 𝐬𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐨𝐨?"

"You're making it sound like they have a disease."

"Oh, no! That's not what I meant at all-"

"Jacob agrees with my observation."

"Edward, you're not helping!"

Somehow, Jacob and Edward had found another bonding point besides Bella's safety – teasing Emma. The wolves were watching along tree line for the time being, but the vampires had sensed their presence and alerted the two humans. "Don't worry, Seth and Leah understand what you meant."

"Oh, good. I meant no offense to them. I was just surprised was all." Emma had learned that the Clearwaters had shifted as well, adding to her collection of fury friends in Forks.

"They would take offense to that, though," Edward said, reading her mind. "They called you her 'fury friends.'"

Jacob barred his fangs and there were two displeased growls. "Sorry, Leah, Seth," Emma winced in apology. Mind reading would not be first on her ranked list of coolest powers anytime soon. Before Edward could comment on that – Emma noticed his expression change to one of offense – she left the old vampire to join her even older one. Edward let her go, forgetting to be insulted, as Bella arrived.

She reached Carlisle right as Jasper hurled Emmett through the air. He hit the ground with aloud thud, but jumped back up, unaffected by the attack. "Again," the buff vampire ordered the soldier.

"Is the pack not joining in training?" Emma asked, confused as to why they weren't sparring with the Cullens. She thought they would be excited for the opportunity to slam a vampire's face into the ground.

"They don't trust us enough to be in their human forms," Edward answered, reading the alpha Sam's answers in his mind.

"They came. That's what matters," Carlisle said, just grateful for their help in protecting the more fragile members of their family. "Will you translate?" Edward nodded, accepting that the wolves just standing in their territory was enough of an olive branch. "Welcome. Jasper has experience with newborns. He'll teach us how to defeat them."

Sam looked to Jasper then back to Edward. "They want to know how the newborns differ from us," Edward translated.

"They're a great deal stronger than us because their own human blood lingers in their tissues," Carlisle explained. "Our kind is never more physically powerful than in our first several months of this life." He then nodded at Jasper, allowing him to take over.

Jasper looked a bit uncomfortable, Emma noticed, no doubt due to the troubling and traumatic experiences from his past. But he was the most knowledgeable on how to fight, so he pushed his nerves away so he could educate the wolves. "Carlisle's right. That's why they are created. A newborn army doesn't need thousands like a human army. And no human army could stand against them," he informed the wolves. "The two most important things to remember are, first, never let them get their arms around you. They'll crush you instantly. The second, never go for the obvious kill. They'll be expecting that, and you will lose."
