Poonam was playing Ludo with her siblings, when her father entered the living room. She went to her papa and passed him a glass of water, her father handed her the key, making her hang it on nail and went back to play. Listening to the commotion outside, her mother came there while wiping her hand with her Saree's pallu and greeted him with a tender smile.
*Inside their room*
"kya hua pareshaan lg rhe hai aap ?" Santi devi asked sensing something's wrong.
(What happened you look tensed?)
"Poonam ki pariksha ka parinaam aa rha hai kal " Manohar replied sounding dull.
(Poonam's board result is declaring tomorrow)
"haan toh isme kya ?" Santi devi said with confusion.
(Yeah, so what's the deal with this ?)
"samaj kyu nhi rhi ho Santi, agr uska parinaam acha na aaya toh, hume uska byaah krna pdega aur wo abhi bachi hai " Manohar expressed his worries.
(Why aren't you understanding Santi if her result will not be good then we have to marry her off and she's still younger for marriage)
"are toh isme kya, wo 19 ki ho gyi hai ji aur humare yaha toh 18 ke baad hi byaah kra dete hai ladkiyo ka, Isko toh fir bhi ek aur saal ka samay mil gya aur ladka dhundte dhundte 20 ki toh ho hi jayegi yeh" Santi replied nonchalantly.
(So what's the problem in this ji, and in our family girls get married as soon as they turn 18 but your daughter got an extra year. and she will be 20 until we find a suitable groom for her)
" Santi, Manoj bhaisahab chahte hai ki hum uski shadi Mahendra Mishra ke bade bete se karwaye"
(Santi, Brother Manoj wants her to marry Mahendra Mishra's elder son)
His sentence shocked her to core, her eyes widened and mouth sealed only one sentence echoed in her mind
" I can't and I will never send my daughter to that hell, please mahadev show mercy to my child".
..................
Poonam was struggling to see her result which was pasted on her school announcement board and after struggling, pushing and getting pushed for a while, she was finally able to face the board and started looking for her name.
And finally she found her name which was listed under pass side at 7th place. she jumped in joy, making others looked at her weirdly but being a chirpy bird, she happily left the school and ran to her father who was anxiously pacing around school's gate.
"Papa mera parinaam bahut acha aaya, mujhe satwa sathan mila hai" Poonam enthusiastically said.
(Papa I passed with 7th place)
Her father finally let out the breath he was holding since he saw her running towards him and embraced his daughter with moist eyes. he was thanking mahadev for showing mercy to them.
"bahut badiya meri bachi, chal ab ghar chalte hai"
(Very good my child, now let'so home)
Poonam nodded her head and they left towards their home.
..................
Poonam reached her home and excitedly hugged her mother and said.
"Maa mujhe satwa sathan mila hai"
(Mom I got seventh place)
Shanti's gaze moved to her husband, asking with her eyes if "is that true ?" her husband nodded his head making her tightly wrap her arms around Poonam.
"bahut badiya meri jaan"
(Well done, my love)
Shanti Devi had tears in her eyes, that finally she doesn't have to send her daughter to that hell but their moment comes to halt when her bade papa (Father's big brother) called her dad outside.
......................
Shanti devi sat on the edge of bed and stroking her daughter's face who was drowned in majestic world of dreams. she was so happy because today her daughter made her so proud. a creak sound of door, gained her attention and looking up she found her husband standing there with dull look on his face.
She called him inside, Manohar went to other side of bed and stared at his daughter face with love in his eyes and few heartbeats later, he broke the silence,
"Kal Mishra parivaar aa rhe hai, Poonam ka hath mangne"
(Tomorrow Mishra Family is coming with proposal)
...........To be continued
Bye till Tomorrow
