Daryl's work began at five in the morning, and it consisted of carrying large crates and machinery into a massive warehouse all day. It wouldn't be so bad, if not for Merle's incessant need to be a dickhead all the time. It didn't help that the guys they were working with were the type who were impressed by the amount of girls he's fucked, the drugs he's sold, and the number of fights he's gotten into.

"There was this one time," Merle began with a chuckle, and the other men listened eagerly, like it was their dad telling them a war story, "I was high on somethin', I don't even remember no more, and we got into this big ol' fight in a bar back in Georgia."

Daryl remembered the fight, and in turn recognized where this story was going. He scoffed to himself and kept working, figuring that the sooner he got all this stuff moved, the sooner he could separate himself from the assholes he worked with - besides the one he was related to.

Merle continued speaking, "The cops show up, and all of 'em run off like scared little birdies, even Darylina over there," some of the other men chuckled, "But I stood my ground. Lady cop was all mean and shit for a few seconds...wasn't too much longer had 'er bent over her own damn police cruiser."

The other men howled with laughter alongside Merle, and Daryl couldn't help an eye roll. True, he was there and he did in fact jump into the fight, which had started as a result of rival motorcycle gangs crossing unfortunate paths at an unfortunate time. And the cops had shown up, but Merle certainly didn't end up sleeping with any of them. In fact, he'd been arrested and Daryl had to bail his sorry ass out, only to be yelled at for using his drug money to do it.

By the time eleven o'clock came around, they were just over halfway done with the moving. They would probably be here into the early evening, but six hours of obnoxious laughter and crude comments from Merle and the other men was more than Daryl could bear. He'd grown up so used to it, hearing it from his dad and then from his brother his whole life, but hearing such debilitating comments about women and trying to fit someone like Ivy into the mold of "women are only good for one thing" seemed to really get under his skin.

"'M gonna head out for lunch," Daryl mumbled to Merle and the others as he walked past them, "Come back in 'bout an hour or so with food for everyone."
