"Eri!"
Y/N was having no luck in finding the small girl.
She was basically running after nothing at this point.
This was all her fault.
It was a bad idea, a terrible idea to encourage Eri to run away if she could. Y/N knew it was futile for the poor child anyway but even so, she told her to run. She just didn't expect her to try to escape on her shift while she was watching her.
"Come on... Eri please!" She pleaded to herself, looking around the alleyway she had just recently entered.
She knows that she can't use anything to bribe the girl because there's nothing they have that she wants. Her life is hard and painful but she also knows that if she doesn't find the child now, there wasn't any hope of her or Eri being able to escape.
She would most likely acquire the end result of death.
By the hands of Kai Chisaki no less... That thought alone was terrifying yet anger inducing.
"Eri?!" She called again when she heard something clatter. It sounded like a trash can or maybe something smaller but it gave her a small bit of hope. She stopped moving, focusing herself to hear anything as much as possible again so she could find her.
Y/N was nervous, probably worse than that, she felt like she almost couldn't breathe. Not only that, her and her newly teamed up partner were probably going to die.
No. This couldn't really be the end, could it?
"Oh I'm sorry, you really took a tumble there,"
Y/N gasped, hearing the faint, unfamiliar voice and booking it. She could only assume the person speaking had found Eri.
"Are you okay? Can I help you up?"
She continued running, finally catching sight of Eri from down an alleyway. It seemed like she bumped into someone, it stopped her long enough that Y/N could catch up.
"Eri," Y/N calls, still jogging a bit before finally catching up to her. "... You have to be careful y'know? Can't just go bumping into anyone you meet."
The boy that was crouched in front of Eri looked strange to say the least. He had green hair and looked at Y/N with a nervous yet bright smile, thankfully not seeing her as a threat.
It was a nice smile.
"Sorry about Eri, I thought I lost her." Y/N added when she noticed another boy standing away from them off to the side. Blond hair, blue eyes and a red cape, they seemed like they'd be heroes which was weird since heroes almost never patrolled in this part of town.
"Oh that's alright! It's good she didn't get hurt or anything!" The blond one chuckled at her, walking just a little bit closer. "I'm sorry too, I wasn't paying attention and bumped into her." The green one smiled again, going to grab Eri only for her to flinch.
Y/N really, really hoped that he would ignore her reaction. Although Y/N had a feeling he wouldn't when he showed an expression of concern for Eri.
"Hey Eri, we should go home now." Y/N started, bending down to her level to talk to her. Y/N gently placed her hand on Eri's back and she surprisingly didn't move away or flinch from her touch.
But she was unfortunately being stubborn, refusing to look at Y/N. Maybe Eri was just struggling with comprehending everything but hopefully she could get Eri to come with her without making too much of a scene.
"Eri?" She calls again, watching as the small girl slowly turns and looks up at her. It hurt to look into her fearful eyes, it really did.
She knows what happens to Eri when she comes with her. Y/N doesn't envy her painful experiences and yet she was making her come back.
