I look at the clock anxious to see if it's already time to leave. I sigh with frustration seeing I still need to wait twenty more minutes. Tapping my foot nervously, I am using the power of my stare trying to force the minutes to go faster.
I don't want to be here if any more disasters are about to happen. Just knowing I need to carry this enormous abomination of a bouquet to my car already makes me mad!
My colleagues are still swooning, thinking this is the most romantic and exciting demonstration of appreciation in the entire world. And that my lover is so very attentive I should be on cloud 9. What a joke! Only I know how uncaring and indifferent Cristopher really is. And to send this thing in front of everyone! He is impossible.
How on earth I put myself in this situation is beyond me. Crap!
I cover my eyes with one hand in frustration. With good luck, I will be able to ignore this man here, as he so kindly asked me to, and will continue to have a somewhat normal work life.
He will forget about me in no time if the way he treated me this last week shows how his mind works. He has no consideration for anyone! So, we will be like strangers soon enough, politely greeting each other if it so happens for us to bump someday, in the corridors.
No biggie, Jacquie. Forget this man, will you?
It's finally time to leave and I sigh with relief.
Maggie is approaching me with a suspicious expression and calculating eyes. I know her well enough and it's very unlikely she will let me off the hook without doing some digging.
"So," She starts, dragging her words with suspicion, "your lover, hum? You lucky dog! Who it might be...? I didn't know a thing about a lover, girl! Tell me everything! Is he hot? Is he a movie star or something?!" She shakes me a bit wanting immediate answers.
I knew she would insist on this! "You know Maggie, it's not what it looks like. He just sent this because... Because he acted badly and wanted to apologize."
"Wow, the man has some style!" She answers excitedly. "When I am gonna meet him?"
"I don't know Maggie, in fact, I don't think it will really work between us, anyway." I answer, trying to end the topic.
"Oh no," she responds annoyed, "Well, maybe you will forgive him, who knows? At last, it seems like he is sorry, for the size of this bouquet. How much it might have cost...!"
I don't really want to think about this.
"Anyway Maggie, I will be leaving now, see you tomorrow!" I finally say, ending the conversation and taking the flowers with me, almost disappearing behind them. I walk clumsily to my car and am surprised when a hand tries to take the bouquet from me. I give a small cry and look in the direction of... Cristopher. Won't he take a hint..!
"What are you doing?" I sneer at him, clutching the flowers protectively to my chest.
"I am trying to help. Give them to me. It's really a big bouquet, just like I asked." He says with an appreciating voice.
"Look, Cristopher," I start with a reasoning voice, holding the bouquet to my chest. "I don't really care for the way you are acting and I want to go home now so if you could just get gone, that would be great..."
"Give them to me!" He insists, taking the flowers from my hands. He makes signals for me to open the car door and shoves the poor flowers in the back seat.
"So," he begins, ignoring everything I've said earlier. "Where are we having dinner tonight? My place, yours?" What? Dinner? God give me patience with this man!
