I was pretty surprised when Linh Song asked if I wanted to come over tomorrow and do our Alchemy assignment. Of course I said yes, because, even though I'm not as bad as Sophie, I'm not an Alchemy genius either. And, well, I was surprised because Linh and I aren't super close. We both met through Sophie. I always knew she existed, and part of me wanted to go over and talk to her, but for some reason, I was too scared to. Anyway, I've made up for it now. I'm trying to get to know her better, so this was the perfect excuse.

When I woke up the next morning, my hair was a mess. "Ugh," I sighed to myself. I'd taken out the braids the night before, but it's been so long since I did, and I've honestly forgotten how ratty my hair could get. Then I braided it into my signature tiny braids. I looked in the mirror. "There, done," I said, satisfied with my work. I took off my fireproof pajamas, and threw on my foxfire uniform, adjusting the collar of my shirt. I ran downstairs, almost late for school, and took a piece of bread. Since I was running late, I used my pyrokinesis to toast it, but accidentally used a little too much heat. "Oh well," I shrug it off. "I like it better burnt anyways'' I walked over to the leapmaster, with the burnt toast in my mouth. I quickly ate it, and yelled "FOXFIRE".

~TIME SKIP~

The rest of the day went by forever. Every minute felt like an hour. I guess I was just excited to get my homework done. Once the ending bell rang for the last period, I stood up. I anxiously speed-walked over to the leapmaster, only to find Linh already there.

"Hi" I said, feeling nervous.

"Hey," said Linh shyly. "Are you ready to go?" I nodded in response, and she grabbed my hand. At that moment, my heart was doing cartwheels and backflips. "Choralmere!" she called out, and we sped away. When we got there, I was amazed. I had never been to Linh's house before, and it was really nice. I suddenly had a thought:

"Linh, weren't we supposed to wait for Tam?" I knew the twins went home together, but at that moment in the leapmaster, I had forgotten about him.

Linh smiled shyly "Oh, no. Not today. He said he has to do something with keefe today." She shrugged.

"Oh, okay." I said, trying to ignore the feelings it stirred up. We were going to be working alone!

"Come on," she said, grabbing my wrist and pulling me in the mansion, up the staircases. I couldn't really focus on the way there, because I was too distracted by the feeling of her soft hand on my wrist. When we got there, she seemed to remember we were holding hands, and quickly let go. I looked at the spot her hand had been in disappointment. For some reason, I didn't want her to let go.

We started studying in her big room. It was decorated with photos of Tam and her friends. No photos of any other relatives. I knew that the Songs didn't care for their kids, but I thought at least kind Linh would care about them.

"So, should we start by reviewing basic healing elixirs?" Linh inquired.

"Yeah, that sounds all right," I said in response, "As long as we can cover the Sleeping Elixir. I'm as bad as Sophie at that one." Linh laughed. It sounded... right. Immediately, I wanted to make her laugh again. Just as I was coming up with something witty and funny to say, she decided we should start studying.

We worked well together, and for once, Alchemy homework didn't seem like such a drag.

"Finally!" I said, stretching my stiff arms, "We're done!"

"Are you sure?" asked Linh. "Normally we have to write something."

"Oh, yeah." I sighed as I read-over the assignment again. "Ugh, we missed it. We have to write a few paragraphs on the benefit of healing elixirs or something."

"Do you want me to do it?" Linh asked tentatively.

"No, no, it's fine." I said. "You did most of the work. I'll do it."

When I reached for a pencil, our hands accidentally touched, and my heart went wild again. I could have sworn she blushed, but I ignored that silly feeling I didn't understand. We both looked at each other, then quickly looked away, and I sped through the rest of the work. Linh asked if I wanted to come over again tomorrow. She said it was to study for the test but it felt like so much more and I don't know why but... I wished it was.
