I didn't even know what was happening when Marella kissed me. I was surprised. Shocked. Confused. But I liked it. I used my one good arm, reached for her face, and kissed her back. Marella tasted like cinnamon and honey, but while that combination wouldn't work in real life, it was good. The kiss lasted about 10 seconds before Marella pulled away. I'll admit, I was sort of disappointed. I wanted those 10 seconds to last forever. Then, Marella lay down close beside me, and softly placed my good hand into hers, twining our fingers together. I hadn't known I liked Marella before, but after that kiss, I realized that maybe I always did. But I pushed all those thoughts aside to the corner of my brain. At that moment, I just wanted to be with her.
"So..." she said.
All I could muster was, "Wow." She smiled.
"How's your arm?" she asked, as if suddenly remembering. I tested it out. I'm not sure if it was the balm or Marella's lips on mine, but suddenly it felt much better.
However, instead of saying that, these words slipped out instead: "Maybe a kiss would make it better." Immediately registering what I said, she turned pink, and I've got a feeling that I turned about 30 shades redder.
"Ahh, I'm sorry!" I say quickly. "You weren't meant to hear that part. It's much better, really." she giggles. But to my enjoyment, when I leaned over to look at her she reached for my waist and pulled me closer and kissed me that time harder. I put my one good arm over her shoulder and kissed her harder, right back. I finally pulled away.
"Wow," we both said simultaneously.
"We should probably go to sleep," Marella decided. "Right," I said as I turned over. It only took one quick minute for me to reach over and grab Marella's hand, our fingers fitting together like we'd done it a hundred times.
"I like this." I whisper. "Whatever this is."
"Me too," Marella whispers back. I have so many questions, but those could wait till tomorrow. After a bit, I fell asleep, my head replaying that kiss over and over until it was permanently burned into my brain.
I woke up the next morning wondering what time it was. Marella noticed I was awake and ran right to me asking if my arm was okay. I nodded
"What time is it?" I asked her, yawning. I wanted to kiss her, but honestly, I was scared of my morning breath.
" I know when we tried to make mallowmelt it didn't work," Marella said, looking away, "So I thought we could make blitzenberry muffins! They taste good, they're easy, and we can eat them for breakfast too!" she exclaimed with a look in her eyes like this was the greatest thing ever. I was really excited of course, but I really didn't want to get out of bed.
"Five more minutes!" I groaned
"Nope!" She said, and she grabbed my good arm. When she tried to get me up I stumbled, tripping and falling into her arms. She quickly pulled me up and smiled,
"Wow, Linh, you're clumsy." She said
"Am not!" I giggled, as she pulled me out of that soft comfy bed and into the hall, down the staircase, both of us laughing the whole time. Finally we reached the kitchen, and I unwillingly pulled out cooking supplies after she told me where they were, while she got out all the ingredients.
"What's a sieve l?" I called out from the giant cabinets.
"Here, it looks like this." Marella comes out of nowhere to appear beside me. Her arm brushed mine as she reached up on her tiptoes to grab a thing that looked like a tightly-woven circular metal basket.
"Huh, so that's what it's called" I smile. "Who knew, we have one of those in my kitchen too." Then I stop. The last time we were in my kitchen wasn't a good memory. "Never mind." I mumble. We start to put the ingredients together in a big bowl that I grabbed a – well, a something. I really am helpless in the kitchen.
" Were not going to have any ingredients left if you keep eating them," I said as Marella shoved yet another blitzenberry into her mouth.
"But they're so good." She said, popping another berry into her mouth, and chewing loudly.
"Well in that case, save some for me!" I said, grabbing them by the handfuls, and starting to shove them in my mouth.
In the end we managed to eat every berry, and had plain muffins instead. Though they still tasted good, I think I would've preferred them with the berries. I normally enjoy fruity things.
