From the following day onwards, life in the community started to change with the threat of war looming over it. The streets were deserted, the markets closed. No one dared go outside unless absolutely necessary. Everyone was afraid of what might happen if Silco's army attacked.
The only person who seemed unaffected was Vi. Vi was Ekko's classmate in elementary school, and afterwards helped him laying foundation of the community. They had quickly bonded and became close friends, often spending time together. Vi had also witnessed Powder's kidnapping, together with Ekko. After his meeting with Jinx, Ekko wanted to visit Vi, to tell her about it. Her house was located not too far from the warehouse, so Ekko decided to walk there. He found her sitting on the porch, enjoying the warm sunshine.
"Hey, Vi!" yelled Ekko.
Vi looked up and saw him approaching her.
"Hi, Ekko." she greeted him, smiling. "What are you doing here? Isn't it dangerous to wander around the streets?"
"Yeah, but I needed to talk to you. It's urgent." replied Ekko.
"Alright, let's get inside." she said, inviting him in.
They went inside and sat down on the couch.
"Can I get you something to drink?" asked Vi.
"Sure." replied Ekko.
Vi got him a glass of water.
"Here you go." she said, handing it to him.
"Thanks." said Ekko, smiling.
"Now, tell me. What's up?" asked Vi, looking at him intently.
"You remember Powder, don't you?" said Ekko.
"Yes, of course. Why are you asking me?" asked Vi, with a hint of sadness in her voice.
"Well, I met her. But it wasn't really her." answered Ekko.
Vi's eyes widened in surprise.
"No way! Where? How? Tell me everything." demanded Vi, excited.
"It's a long story, so bear with me." replied Ekko.
"Alright, I'm listening."
Ekko began telling her about the conversation he had with Jinx.
"And so, I think that the woman I met was Powder, but she's now called Jinx." he concluded.
"No way. I don't believe you. My sister is gone. Don't give me false hopes." replied Vi, angrily.
"But what if I'm right? What if it's really her?" asked Ekko, looking at her with pleading eyes.
"Then why did she act like that? Why didn't she recognize you?" she asked him, tears starting to form in her eyes.
"I don't know, Violet. I think she has been brainwashed." answered Ekko, trying to calm her down.
"No. I'm telling you, you're wrong." replied Vi. "Powder would never do such a thing."
"Whatever it is, she seems pretty sure that I'm the enemy." explained Ekko.
"Why? You didn't do anything wrong. Why would she think that?" said Vi.
"She told me about Silco's plan of wanting to conquer the community and make us work for him." replied Ekko.
"So, now he wants to do that too. That bastard. I'm gonna kill him." muttered Vi, angrily.
"Vi, calm down." said Ekko.
"No, Ekko. If she is Powder, and I mean if, then I'll take her back." replied Vi, determined.
"Okay. Then, I'll help you. We'll get her back." said Ekko.
