The morning sunlight peeked through the windows as Jinx awoke from her deep slumber. As she stretched, a few stray locks of blue hair fell in her face. She pushed them away, not wanting to think too hard about anything that would disrupt her focus today.
"Today's going to be a good day," Jinx thought as she stood up from the bed, taking a quick look at herself in the mirror before going downstairs to the living room.
When she arrived at the bottom of the stairs, there were already a few of Silco's henchmen waiting there for her.
"Good morning, Jinx."
"Good morning, everyone. What's on the schedule today?"
One of the men handed her a piece of paper containing the plans for the day. The list of tasks seemed endless and they all looked to be the most menial.
Jinx groaned in frustration. She was just getting used to her job.
"Couldn't Silco have picked a better day?" she started reading. "I have to organize the shipment of chemicals to Shimmer production," she complained . "And I have to check what Singed is up to, too."
Jinx glanced up and noticed that the man standing next to her, Valdo, was holding a plate full of pancakes and eggs.
"Thank you." She said, taking the plate and heading towards the dining room, where Silco would soon be joining her.
He sat down next to her as he began eating his own food.
"I understand how you feel." s aid Silco.
Jinx looked up and stared into his eyes, hoping for some kind of reassurance. "What?" she asked.
Silco continued.
"When I was your age, I too, felt overwhelmed with all the responsibility I had. You must understand that there is more than just your life to care for."
"Oh." said Jinx, not entirely sure where Silco was going with this.
"Jinx, I am not asking you to stress too hard for the work I gave you. You just need to realize that sometimes things won't always go exactly the way you want them to. I will always be there for you when you need help. And I promise, when I see that you can handle it all on your own, then I'll give you some time off." Silco looked into her eyes and smiled reassuringly.
"Okay." Jinx replied, and began eating her pancakes.
She didn't like to think about her past, but now that Silco brought it up, it seemed as if Jinx could remember certain things from her childhood. She recalled being left alone most of the time, and never being allowed to leave the house, especially not after dark. She remembered the harsh punishments that she'd receive when she stepped out of line or got into trouble.
"Have you heard anything about "the community"?" said Silco.
"The community?" asked Jinx. She was not aware of what he was referring to.
Silco's face turned to anger. He stood up abruptly.
"What's wrong? Did I do something wrong? Am I in trouble?" Jinx panicked, trying to make sure that she wasn't going to be punished again.
Silco sat back down again, still fuming with rage.
"That fucking community" he said in a low growl. "You've probably heard of it, right? I've had it on my radar for a while. And today they attacked one of our squads again."
Jinx gulped.
" I'm used to people trying to resist us. They're always fighting back against us . But this Ekko guy..." he continued, as Jinx nodded nervously. "But they won't stop us, Jinx. And neither will th at group, what's it called? Firelights ? I'm sure that with the plans that we have been preparing for them, we will crush them for good."
