This day had exhausted him more than he had anticipated. Following Luc, even at a leisurely pace, throughout the entire zoo was a much more tiring activity than he remembered. Back then, they both ran from one enclosure to another, much to the dismay of their mothers who had to follow them, never stopping. And they still had enough energy to play together until nightfall once they returned. But how much fun they had each time. They were never bored. They always managed to find an activity, no matter the weather, place, or age.

With a beer in hand, Shun reminisced about their childhood. He remembered that time when, at the age of eight, they had gone in search of Pokémon after watching the movie. They searched for hours before returning, disappointed that they hadn't found any. They got scolded once they got home, but they had so much fun. It didn't discourage them at all. The two best friends continued their adventures, always finding a new, more exciting adventure than the previous one.

And now that he thought about it, they had always been together. From the sandbox days to high school, they had never been apart. They knew each other so well that perfect strangers mistook them for brothers or even fake twins.

Until that fateful day seven years ago when Lucien had confessed his feelings to him. He had turned their lives upside down with just three little words. Initially surprised, anger quickly took over everything else. Angry that he had lied to him all those years. Angry that he hadn't had enough confidence in himself to confess earlier. Angry at himself for reacting the way he did. Angry at society for pushing those who deviated from the norm to be afraid of others' judgment. Oh yes, he had been angry. But it eventually gave way to sadness, the sadness of losing his best friend, the one with whom he had shared everything.

Shun had then made the decision to leave, to put some distance between them. He wanted to put as much distance as possible between them, to forget what had happened.

But no matter what he did, he never succeeded. Everything reminded him of Luc. When he was bored, he thought the blond would have come up with a brilliant idea to pass the time. When he wanted to date a girl, Shun couldn't help but compare her to his ex-best friend. When he went out, when he partied, when he came home drunk, he always thought of Luc.

At first, he thought it was due to missing him. After all, they had never been apart. But after more than a year, he was forced to admit that there was more. More than friendship, more than brotherly love. And perhaps if anger hadn't taken over all his other feelings that night, they could have analyzed what he felt and responded positively to the blond's feelings.

But he had fled, and Lucien seemed to have moved on. He no longer seemed to feel any romantic feelings for him. Shun had missed his chance and now had to face the consequences of his actions, even if it hurt.

Feeling depressed, the redhead didn't even bother to change before falling asleep on his bed.
