"Is it done?" I questioned the twins after having the room checked for bugs.

"Yes boss, he has been taken care of." One of the men assured me, and I felt relief take residence inside my heart along with satisfaction.

The reason I had ordered this hit was very simple: Tyrone's men had entered my territory without my permission and caused a ruckus by shooting up one of the high schools because a snitch was hiding within the walls.

I was not only appalled, but furious when I was informed about his actions because he had placed innocent lives—children in danger for one man, though fortunately for him, only the informer was hit which is why I had ordered the twins to put his right-hand in an early grave instead of him.

PawPaw's death was a warning that I hoped he'd heed.

"Y'all are free to go, but make sure you keep a low profile for a little while. Michael will give your payment on the way out," I told them, and my words pulled a nod of respect and acknowledgement from the men before they left the room to receive their payment from the man downstairs.

I noticed when they left the room, my black cat, Alke, had entered and announced her presence by releasing a 'meow'.

"I still don't understand why you ain't kill Tyrone." My good friend and right-hand man, Dre, commented as Alke jumped into my lap.

Dre had been standing quietly in front of the large glass windows in my office, taking in the beautiful view of the city below, my city.

"I wanted to send him a message, and remind him that he's not untouchable—" I began while bringing my phone into my hand as a message came in, "—but I am."

J.O

R.L. 9 o'clock.

A sigh made its way through my mouth to greet the light air in the room, making it heavy as my eyes read the message that came from my father. The message served as an unfortunate reminder of another set of duties I had to fulfil today, but when Alke rubbed her head against my leg, I relaxed a bit.

R.L stood for Reid Lee.

Reid Lee was a member of the Mexican cartel that my father wanted me to get into business with because according to him, the deal Reid was willing to get me was good, but in order to acquire it, he wanted us to meet so that he could...evaluate my character.

In other words, he wanted to see if I was the trustworthy businessman I was known to be, and I couldn't judge his caution because I understood it. It was extremely rare to meet someone you could trust completely in this world as everyone looked out for themselves, which meant you should always expect a knife in the hand you don't shake.

"What is it?" Dre inquired, evidently taking notice of my sudden silence, and before I answered I turned off my phone and slipped it into my pocket while making sure I didn't accidentally disturb Alke, who was slowly falling asleep against my lap.

"Nothing, my father was just reminding me about the meeting tonight." I briefed him, and it didn't take much for him to pick up on what I was talking about.

"With the man with the two last names?" He asked, causing a light grin to sit on my lips as I nodded.

Reid Lee.

"Mhm." I hummed before pulling my multi-coloured lips apart and adding some bass to my voice as I called, "Ryan."

It didn't take much time for the bodyguard I had placed outside my office door to slowly push the barrier between us open wide enough for Dre and me to see him.
