"Are you sure you don't want anything else?" I questioned my brother as we approached the supermarket line that held a few people.
"I'm sure." He told me for the fifth time with an appreciative smile, and I decided this would be the last time I asked while my eyes scanned my cart in a silent check to see if everything I needed was there.
"Shoot, I forgot the other case of water." I cursed when my eyes met the sight of only one.
"I'll go for—"
I shook my head, brushing off his words before he could even complete them because I knew exactly what he would say.
"No stay in line, I'll be right back."
And with that, I made my way back to the aisle we had gotten the first case of water from, and luckily there was one left.
"It seems you've beat me to it." Someone commented when I brought the case of water into my hand, and I immediately turned to the familiar voice with furrowed brows.
"Sorry?" I inquired, silently requesting Grace, who had met at the club a few weeks ago to clarify her statement.
"You got the last one." She explained, gesturing towards the case in my grasp, and I glanced at it and her for a brief second before outstretching the object towards her.
"You can have it, I already have one in my cart."
My actions surprised her as she hesitantly took my generous offer before resting it in her cart.
"Are you sure?" She asked, and I gave her an assuring and confirming nod which brought a smile onto her lips, "Thank you."
"You're welcome, so how have you been?" I questioned her, and she shrugged.
"Good, what about you?"
"Great, I'm glad we bumped into each other, I forgot to ask for your number at the club."
My words had her outstretching her hand as she kept the expression of happiness on her lips, "Let's change that, give me your phone."
"Here." I mumbled, removing my phone from my pocket, unlocking it before resting it in her hand.
"So how's Prince?" She inquired, out of the blue as she punched in her number, and her query brought back images of the man I was no longer with, and it also brought curiosity to mind as I couldn't help but notice how she referred to him as 'Prince'.
Did she know who he was? Or did he tell her to call him that?
"What?" I questioned her, wondering how he came up.
"My bad, I caught the way y'all was looking at each other at the club when he came over to you after I left your side, so I assumed y'all were together." Grace briefed me, letting me know why she mentioned him.
"We are...We were."
She grimaced slightly at my words as she handed me my phone before taking the handle of her cart which permitted her to begin a journey down the aisle, and I didn't hesitate to follow her.
"Y'all broke up?" She asked me in search of clarification, and I gave her a confirming nod which pulled another question from her, "Why?"
"Because of his job," I told her and earned a look of realisation as she nodded slowly to show she understood.
"Oh..."
Her sudden realisation further led me to question if she knew what I was referring to when I said 'job'.
