She really should've expected this.

Nanaka's eyes were filled with a hint of fear as her movements became more desperate, trying to save as many balls as she could before they fell on the floor. The other girls, minus Shi, shared the same sentiment as they too became more desperate in defending rather than racking up more points.

Sure, they had a strong start, they were even confident in the beginning, but the more Mikayla and [Name] racked up the points for their team, the panic began to set in.

The international players' team was a few points away from reaching the 20s while they barely just passed 10 points. It was a huge difference and things were starting to feel hopeless.

Multiple regrets couldn't help but fill Nanaka's mind. Things might've been better had she just tried harder to make her friends back down because being benched doesn't mean the end of the world, she might still have a chance to prove herself and play in games while Cho and Akane continue to play in the starting line-up. But now that they've crossed Mikayla and even [Name], the chances are, they might get kicked out of the team after this if they don't win.

Frantically running forward, Cho attempted to catch Mikayla's spike only to fail once more as she tripped on her feet. The desperation clouding her thoughts was painfully obvious as it reflected on her movements.

"How boring," [Name] scoffed as she shook her head, the tiny fraction of interest she had for this match diminishing the moment her opponents began to fumble. "The match hasn't even ended and yet they're already done for."

"How disappointing indeed," Mikayla nodded in agreement with her setter as her condescending eyes watched as Akane and Nanaka pulled Cho up to her feet. "I'm surprised they've lasted this long on my team with how they are."

[Name] didn't feel the need to respond after that as her eyes trailed off to the only person who wasn't clouded by desperation. Standing in all her glory, Shi watched the trio in increasing annoyance. She was starting to get bored and it was beginning to show.

"Hmm," [Name] hummed thoughtfully as she began to approach the net, her feet purposely clacking loudly against the gym floors, catching everyone's attention. "I have a proposition." She stated, causing all conversation to die out.

The setter pointed a finger towards Nanaka. "Switch with me." She announced causing everyone to be stunned. "I've realized how unfair of a match-up this was so I'm giving you a chance. You'll be 7 points ahead if you were to accept and you'll even have Mikayla. Surely even someone like you will be able to win with an advantage like that, right?"

"What are you doing?" Mikayla cursed under her breath but she was simply ignored as [Name] kept doing what she pleased.

"What's the catch?" Nanaka narrowed her eyes, her apprehension clear on her face. It's too good of an offer so there must be something about it.

"Nothing at all." [Name] shrugged as she gripped the net in front of her. "So? Do you agree or not?"

Nanaka turned to look at her friends only to receive encouraging nods as they pushed her lightly.

"Go for it!" Cho encouraged with a smile.

"Yeah!" Akane agreed as she nodded her head.

Nanaka felt a bit bad about leaving her friends behind but...She turned to look back at [Name]'s impatient gaze before nodding. "Alright, let's switch teams.

"Great," A smile, or more like a smirk, appeared on [Name]'s face as she began to walk over to the other side.

"Stop," Mikayla growled a bit as she grabbed [Name]'s wrist. Her gaze demanded answers but the latter remained unfazed.
