THE REST OF THE NIGHT WAS A BLUR. Smith doesnt remember how they got home. He doesnt know if the others are okay. He hates himself for it.

Riley. Riley had died in front of them.

Maybe it was all a fever dream, a cruel trick of his mind playing on his deepest fears. Yes, that must be the case. He clung to that thought like a lifeline, desperately seeking solace in the hope that the horrors of the night were nothing more than a figment of his imagination.

As he lay in bed with Odessa's arms wrapped around him, her presence was a reassuring anchor in the storm of his thoughts. In the darkness of the room, illuminated only by the soft glow of moonlight filtering through the curtains, he found a fleeting sense of peace in her embrace.

It felt as if she was the only real thing in his life, the one constant amidst the chaos that threatened to consume him.

Her steady heartbeat against his chest, the gentle rise and fall of her breath, served as a reminder that they had survived the night together, that they were not alone in their struggle.

Smith closed his eyes, willing himself to let go of the haunting memories that plagued his mind. He buried his face in the crook of Odessa's neck, inhaling the familiar scent of her hair, seeking refuge from the nightmares that lurked just beyond the edges of his consciousness.

In that moment, with Odessa's warmth enveloping him like a protective shield, Smith allowed himself to drift into a fitful sleep, clinging to the hope that when he woke, the horrors of the night would be nothing more than a distant memory, fading with the light of dawn.

In the morning he noticed Odessa wasnt besides him. He stood up from the bed and went to the kitchen downstairs.

"Essie?" He called out his voice still hoarse. But there was no response. The TV had been turned on the news channel. The reporter was talking about the death of Riley and . . . NICOLE?
