Deidre Doherty
Nothing feels real.
"...I'm okay..." Nicolò says faintly

"No you're not. I will call the doctor ."i respond calmly, trying to not show my nerves

" ..my doctors number is on the pad by the phone, if you must."

I quickly find the paper and call the number, telling the person his symptoms. The doctor, knowing his address, says that he will arrive soon.
I have always been scared of sickness. My sister used to joke about how i wouldn't talk to her when she was ill. I want to do better this time.
I sit by Nicolò's bed as i wait for his doctor, holding a wet cloth to his head.

Soon, the bell rings and i answer it quickly.
"You must be the doctor, come in please."
The man looks a little older than me with dark skin and twisted hair. He isn't ugly by any means but i can never seem to let myself enjoy a mans appearance anymore.
"He hasn't called me in quite a while, I'm sure he's just got a cold. No need to worry." The young man says, trying to ease my nerves.

He walks upstairs and begins examining Nicolò, noticing his very pale appearance.

"Yes.. he does look rather ill, i must recommend a hospital visit or pharmaceutical care." He says with a slight smile change in tone.
After a few more moments of examination the doctor leaves Nicolò's side and begins talking to me.

"I will write a prescription for his throat and sweats. Hopefully these will help but i am not sure there is much for me to do but let him wait it out."
I look over at Nicolò, hoping his pain ends soon.
"There is nothing to worry, Angel is a tough one." The doctor reassures, noticing my expression.

"Angel?" I reply

"Oh, yes, Nicolò is often referred to as Angel, at least back home."
"In Italy?" I question

"..sure"

Nicolò won't be able to eat my cobbler..

I begin walking the doctor out when he stops and turns back to me.

"Marci Costello"he says, holding out his hand.
"Oh.. Deidre, Doherty"i reply, smiling brightly at his gesture and shaking his hand.
"It's ok if you can't.. but would you be willing to eat a bit of berry cobbler with me? I'm afraid it's going to waste with just me to enjoy it.." i question, rambling on.

"Of course, wouldn't want to waste good cobbler" he beams

                                                     🪡

While eating the dessert, we talk about my situation and how 'Angel' has helped me. We soon get to the topic of my working with Nicolò and how the store will be ran.

" i am not sure.. he might not feel comfortable with my working there without him.." i say uneasily

" He has trusted you in his house and trained you in his shop, I'm sure he isn't going to oppose the idea of a break." Marci replies

" You are quite right.."
We end the conversation with a bit of cobbler to-go and a light hearted suggestion at hand.

"It was lovely meeting you Diedre, i hope to see you again. In different circumstances of course."

"Of course." I smile and nod my head goodbye as i close the door.

As soon as I shut the door, i begin making my way upstairs.

I knock and am welcomed by Nicolò.
" Come in, dear"
I enter and sit at the chair on his bedside.
Before i could mention it, Nicolò says,
" Well, i suppose i will need to ask for you to take over the shop for me."
I pause
Did he hear us?
"I would love to, if you would let me.." i say cautiously
" Of course, your art in tailoring is beyond any skill I've seen before, i would ask no other."he responds with a gentle smile in the crease of his eyes.

Btww Marci is hott jsyk.
