Even when its thorns hurt me, i held on tightly and let the blood change the petals color.

Slight TW*

Just as i am about to greet the new customers, a glint of metal catches my eye.
The taller of the three pulls a gun from his hip after he looks around the outside of the shop for onlookers.

It's rather late and most parents have made it home to make dinner for their family.
A straggler or two walk quietly on the other side of the road but there is no way they would notice an object in this man's hand from so far away.
My little glimpse of hope leaves with their footsteps venturing farther down the road.

With this discovery, i quietly reach for the door handle.
My fingers touch the cool metal and a slight relief fills me as the door closes without a creak.
I hold the top of the door while closing like i used to when i got home for school. This way, the door doesnt make a click when fully met with its frame.

My hands shake as i fumble to get the key from my pocket.

I hear a light masculine voice say something in a language i don't understand. A much deeper voice rebuttals the first and soon the sound of fallen fabric bolts and drawers being pulled from their desk reaches my ears.

I can hear the loud footsteps of a large man getting closer to the door i hide behind.
With that, i dig into my skirt pocket and find the key that locks the door.
The shaking in my hands make inserting the key difficult but after a few tries i finally turn it, successfully locking myself in this back office.

I can almost feel the wreckage in the room beside me.
I hear a faint whisper of a man i know very well. "Come out. Little girl." he throws another fabric bolt on the ground. "Thought you could run away from me? Thought you could just leave me and your mother? Leave us for dead like you did your sister, did you?"

The door begins shaking with the kick of his foot.

Each breathe hurts as a new one comes soon after. The sound gets louder so i hold my hand to cover the wheezing. I sit curled underneath the desk in the far corner of the small room. My body trembles as the noises of wreckage envelope my senses.

Within moments, my chest begins to burn and the persistent pound in my chest stops. My head falls into my knees as my eyes close and my body loses all feeling.
