The Unexpected Reunion
It was early in the day, not yet noon but closing in on midday, when it happened. Steve had been there to see Peggy, as he always was. It wasn't strange, just earlier than expected.
As they sat together, they spoke of many things. But although he tried to avoid it, Peggy wouldn't let him hold off on this certain conversation for any longer.
"You know she's still alive right?" Peggy asks suddenly.
"What?" Steve replies, hesitant in continuing what was coming.
"You know what. Or, as I should say, who." Peggy looked at the Captain with a narrow gaze.
"I know," Steve said, giving in to the direction of the conversation. "I just, don't want to..."
"Don't want to what? Hear her nag? Well, too bad. Many things happened in the time you were gone. She went through a lot. She's grown a lot, and-" Peggy lectured until he cut her off.
"Exactly." He said, his voice rising in grief. "She's grown all these years while I- ....I'm still the way I was. I... I don't want to see her all grown up and -no offense- but old. I never even got to see her go to middle and highschool. Or teach her how to ride a bike. And now... Now, I don't want to have her given back to me just so that she can be taken away in just a few short years."
Peggy sighed thinking about what Steve said and all that had happened in those years with his sister Morgan. She frowned at how things occured and before she could hide the sadness, Steve took notice, immediately bringing it to question.
"What? What is it Peg? Whats the matter?"
"Steven, a lot of things happened in the time that you were gone. Not all were good. Do you know about what happened at the Westmin Orphanage?"
"Yes. It was destroyed in a chemical explosion. Everyone inside died." Steve answered with a frown.
"Not everyone." Peggy said.
"What do you mean?"
"There was one survivor." She paused to take a breath. "Your sister was in the orphanage that day. She was lucky enough to survive, but there were... side effects."
"What kind of side-effects?"
At that moment the door opened to reveal a lovely young blonde girl. She was just a teenager, with shoulder-length hair and emerald green eyes. A small pair of glasses rested gently on her nose and a pink smile graced her lips. For the first few moments, the girl was unaware of the Soldier's presence, greeting her guardian with a warm smile and 'afternoon,' but as her head lifted and her eyes gazed about the familiar room, the orbs settled on the blonde soldier... and the smile disappeared, replaced by a sharp gaze that narrowed in on the man.
"Hello, Steven." The girl greeted him.
Steve furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. He couldn't remember meeting this girl. Did they pass eachother somewhere? Her eyes seemed familiar...
"Morgan!" Peggy called from the bed, "It's good to see you, are you able to stay for a bit?"
"Sorry Aunt Peggy," Morgan turned to the elderly woman with a regretful smile, "I have work to get to, I just came to drop off the payment slips and thought I'd say hello."
"Morgiana?" Steve spoke up, confusion clear on his face. "Is that really you?"
Morgan gave a small smile before answering. "Yes, its me... Brother."
