"What was that about?" I mutter to nobody in particular.

"Ooh, I bet they're in trouble," Aurora whispers. "Whadaya think they did?"

"They probably didn't do anything. They probably just . . . Probably just . . ." I struggle to come up with a suitable explanation. Why else would they have been called out of class like that if they weren't in serious trouble?

"Well?" Aurora asks. "What has happened recently that they could've been a part of?"

I shake my head. "You're the one who loves to gossip. Not me."

"But gossiping is sooooo fun."

"Do you two have something you'd like to say to the class?" The teacher asks.

"Uh, no miss-"

"Yes, actually," Aurora interrupts," this class is a waste of time. Why do we have to learn about the first people who settled here? I mean, they're all dead, aren't they?"

"What did you just say?" The teacher says with a scowl on her face. She hardly ever scowls at us - we're her star students apparently - so I thought Aurora would've backed down immediately, but clearly not.

"I said: they're all dead, aren't they? What, are they hiding among the modern age in their cloaks and stupid hats?" I hear a few kids laugh behind us, but don't pay them any attention. Aurora never snaps like this. "Besides, even if they were alive, didn't they fight over land all the time? If they are alive, I say it's better that they died so we wouldn't have anymore stupid wars where important loved ones die!"

Dead silence. Everybody in the class - me included - is shocked at Aurora's outburst. There's a few kids at the back laughing, but the teacher glares at them and that shuts them up pretty quickly. Everybody is waiting to see how the teacher reacts, she normally isn't one to forgive students very easily.

"Miss Hart, since you and your friend have such strong opinions on the matter, why don't you two make a presentation on-"

An alarm starts blaring in my ears.

"What the fu-"
