Owen lay on the operating table. His mouth a little open, his left-hand dangling over the rim of the bed. Men in white aprons surrounded his right arm. They had never seen such intense damage from a toxic chemical burn. They did not dare to touch it. They wanted to examine it closer. If they put stiches in, the mutated red warts would pop and cause bad infection. If they didnt put stiches, he may get infection anyway.
Remarkably, a patch of saliva looking liquid lay just in the groove of his thumb and forefinger. This patch was completely unharmed, it had perfect skin. A student was impulsed to take a swob of it down to the labs, but the doctors advised him not to. If this antidote was curing his hand, they would prefer it stay on. The doctors debate amongst each other as to why someone would possess such dangerous chemicals unless they were to be used on dinosaurs. But even dinosaurs would die in seconds of ingesting or touching this stuff. The doctors also want to find out what the antidote for the stuff is.
His hand is puffy and yellow looking. Claire had driven him straight to the closest hospital, which of course was underground. Claire had come across Alan and Ellie once again whilst driving above the surface, they had a blowout on their Land Rovers front, left wheel. They guided her to the nearest hospital by letting her follow them. Alan jumped in the boot of the car with Maisie. Ellie knew the way much better and hurried Claire.
They now stood in the hospital waiting room. The walls were a dull blue and floors were small, finely detailed black and white tiles. There were no windows, rather huge artworks and photography pieces of the land above them. Maisie stared at a particular one of Everest. Well, at least thats what she thought it was of. It was abstract with orange slashes running down the edge, a wide green triangle in the middle and a pink sky. The snow was purple. It was such that if she stood far away from it and squinted, it depicted Everest perfectly but just with the wrong shades.
Alan and Ellie spoke in low tones, discussing how they were going to get back. If it may be possible to hire a car. Cars went out of production years ago. People now use underground trains.
Claire walked up and down, biting her nails. Alan and Ellie didnt know what happened. Nobody did. Claire considered all the danger the people of Isla Nebular suffered because of the Indominus Rex. And of those people, not all of them were hurt by the rex itself. With the new establishment of a dinosaur of unknown species, the whole dinosaur social system was disrupted. The animals started to wildly behave even after the rex was gone. The whole order of hierarchy in the animals system was knocked out. Now, this human thing was going to mess that up for the dinosaurs and people. What was Owen thinking? Only chaos can come from this. This was bad. Worse than anything ever imagined. Claire regretted every letting the scientists at the lab conduct such a monster. She thought about that terror, and then the terror of the Indorapture. The ultimate war dinosaur. But then again if it werent for that hellish creature, Maisie would never have come into her life.
She walked over to Maisie, rubbed her shoulders from behind. "Are you ok?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. You?" Maisie replied. Claire glanced back to Ellie and Alan.
"Did you tell them about what happened?" Claire said in a hushed tone. Maisie shook her head.
Just then, Alan walked up to Claire with Ellie strutting just behind him. "Hello," she said nervously.
"We were just going to grab some coffee, want some?" Alan said with a smile.
"No, thats not what we were going to ask!" Ellie whisper screamed through her teeth.
"Yeah? Well, I beat you to it," Alan whispered back, "Coffee? Anyone?"
"We actually wanted to know what happened to Owen, if the burning came from inside how he is still alive?" Ellie inquisitively asked.
"Ah," Claire said.
"See we already knew that! Lets go get that coffee now." Alan positively said. He began making tiny steps towards the door, looking back over his shoulder sarcastically.
"Actually," Maisie began, "the girl saved him." Ellie looked dumbfounded. What girl? Who? When? How?
"I'm sorry, who? Ellie asked.
The girl The Indo-human. Maisie waved her two index fingers as she said so. This snatched Alans attention. He looked grim and angry.
"That monster survived?" Alan half shouted.
"How?" Ellie sighed; her brow creased with wrinkles.
"I don't know, but we heard a voice screaming for help. Dad went back to go save whoever it was. We began driving off. But then she came with him lying in her arms. She was peaceful. It was weird."
"So it survived?" Alan half shouted again.
"Where is it now?" Ellie persisted.
"I don't know. She ran away into the hills. Shes so fast! Like faster than Usain Bolt or Wayde Van Neikerk, or anyone or anything I've ever seen in my whole life."
"Great." Alan muttered.
Claire was going paler and paler every word Maisie spoke. She was bugged about the Indoraptor. They left the carcass pierced upon the Triceratops skull. What is stopping anyone from cloning it again and again and again. And creating more mutated people like that girl. But intelligent.
A man in a navy apron and white overalls came out. He had his mask tucked under his chin and a cap sealing in his hair. He held a clipboard. Claire Dearing, he said and looked up through his square frames. Claire was shocked to hear her name and responded a few seconds late, Yes. Im here. The doctor informed her of Owens status. He was serverely burnt in many places, but they put what applicable medicine they could find on his arm and wrapped it in a cast. The arm was unknown status, but he asked where Owen got the slime from. She couldnt answer.
"Is he ok? He will be fine?" She asked.
"He should be. He is on a heavy dose of painkillers. He will be alright to go in the morning if treatment goes well. I have the prescription out for you. Make sure he takes it, or else its life or death. But, if you could consider leaving him for further observation of the chemical usage, or the slime? It would be beneficial to our sponsoring company." The doctor tried to persuade Claire.
Sponsored. Everything these days is sponsored. Dinosaurs included. Rich people seek entertainment and so gamble their money on businesses. They compete and take bets, win through wicked ways. Bribery practically took control of the government, thats how it collapsed. Nothing lies in place now in terms of leadership. The world is just run by huge competing companies. Depending on which sponsor you work for, do you align your rules and values with them. The United States of America, and for the rest of the world for that matter, had crumbled. Mining companies took charge by digging out the tunnels and founding the underground cities for people to incubate in. Genetics was the second big company, forming cures to help people deal with the lack of sun and air pressure. They owned hospitals, universities and labs all across the globe. Other sponsors had fancy names but thats it, unless they worked for mines or genetics, they will never get the same recognition.
Claire shook her head. Zach and Gray are what got her here. They will be the ones to get her out.
Malcolm shivered; he hadnt seen the ghost in a few days now. His black clothes were slightly damp with sweat from pain, and he could feel infection crawling in his leg. His source of food was adequate, but he didnt know how much longer it would last. He was trapped in this tiny compartment whether he liked it or not. His leg was just a pulp, death had never looked like the nicer option. But something told Malcolm that the ghost had better plan for him. He should try to live until he sees it again. The rain fumbled down on the roof; tonight was going to be freezing. He used the sources that the ghost gave him. He had immense hope that it would come back sooner rather than later.
