Wu tapped his fingers on the glass table top of his desk. His office walls were a mustard shade of yellow. Peeping in through the blinds were streaks of the last it of sunlight. Wu stared at them illuminating the room. The sun caught on the crystallised mosquitoes trapped in luminous yellow tree sap. He thought upon the time John Hammond first hired him and set him on the task of recreating dinosaurs. Then he thought about his escape off the island. Later on, in his fifties he was asked to go back to Island Nebular, reconstruction was on the go. But they needed more then dinosaurs. They needed a monster. He created it.
Back on the mainland, he created the Indoraptor.
Then he created the locusts.
Now he created her. To fix everything he ever made.Wu shifted his gaze to the cold mug of coffee that left a ring on the desk. He was anxious. Any moment now Barry will call and give him news. Wu just wanted it to be good news. He was so upset that his speech was interrupted by a fire, how it was not taken well by the press, how people did not see his vision. But, they will. He will force his vision on the world if he has to. And if they don't accept it, he will initiate his other designated purpose for her. He will begin a new empire. Starting with the island, he will build a nation of new people. And who knows? Maybe in ten thousend years time, they will speak of a prophecy that brought them to life. 4.4 will be the new Eve. 4.3 the new Adam. And Wu will be a God.
A sharp hiss through a nearby radio distracted Wu. Irritated, he picked up the microphone.
"Tell me something good." Wu's ugly voice spat.
"Wu. It's Barry. We got them." Barry's voice said sternly. Wu almost jumped out of his seat, but he remained calm.
"Then what are you waiting for, Barry? Get here now!" Wu said.
"We on our way. But, I have to warn you some weird stuff went down. I think get the medics ready for when we arrive." Barry said, the sound of an jet ski engine hummed in the background.
"Why, what happened to 4.4, I told you to be careful Barry? Is she hurt? Is she..." Wu paused to embrace the possibility, "...dead?"
"No, not the experiment. It's fine." Barry staggered. "I'm talking about Maisie.""Aunt Claire?" Grey whimpered, "what are we going to do now?"
Claire stood, her shoes semi sunk in the dirt. Her eyes rimmed red. "I don't know sweetie."
The boat drifting far out to sea. The sun now midway on the horizon. The sky turning pink, dotted with cotton wool clouds. Claire took a minute to process everything.
The hybrid cured Maisie by biting her darted neck like a vampire. Maisie remained calm and fell into a deep slumber. Barry scrambled back on his fours to get his gun. He loaded a dart and shot the hybrid. She fainted almost immediately onto her stomach but her eyes remained open, she was still conscious, just paralyzed. Zach ran to the hybrids side but was kicked in the head but the back of a AK47 attached to a soldier of some kind. He collapsed next to her. Owen then tackled the soldier but as the soldier hit the ground, he fired off a few rounds. Owen backed down. Then, all of them were surrounded, all were hostage.
A tall blonde female soldier towered over them. "On your knees! Hands behind your head." She bellowed. They did as she ordered.
"Barry, what's going on?" Owen said as calmly as he could.
"I'm sorry, Owen." That's all Barry could say.
Two members of the SWAT team stomped over to Masie, one at her head, the other at her feet. Blondie put handcuffs on her. The two picked her up and positioned her upright in Barry's vehicle. The strapped her in with the seatbelt. She remained completely in a sleeping state.
Another pair were cautious when approaching the hybrid. They carefully touched her arm then scattered back. She flared her doubled set of long incisors, only her two straight front teeth resembled a humans. Every other tooth, stretching back was like a sharpened pencil. She growled in warning.
"She can't hurt you, get on with it." Barry said. The two were hesitant at first, hovering over her. Barry looked in the vehicle for his radio. He saw the mic connected by a thin black wire to the radio and grabbed it. "Team B, this is Team A. Over."
"Over, Team A. You need the truck?" A crackled voice came. "It's on it's way now." Barry clicked the radio off.
The soldiers were making progression. One arm was already in the straight jacket. They slowly were slipping in the other one. The hybrid ferociously growling. One of the soldiers hands merely slipped and BAM! She caught his pinky finger in her teeth. The soldier yelped and tugged but she wasn't giving up. His partner aimed the gun at her.
Barry yelled, "No! Are you mad!"
"Sir, she's got me." The soldier was crying now, bending over. His knees buckled beneath him and he wailed on the ground. A sudden final cry and the snapping of bones. She spit out the tip of his pinky finger and he scrammed back. A fountain of red oozed out his hand. He bit his lip and blubbered uncontrollably.
"For goodness sake..." Barry whispered to himself. "Wu told you to be careful." Barry went forward and shoved her arm into the jacket. He tipped her over onto her front again to do up the zip at the back.
Dangling from his back pocket was a flat looking metallic muzzle. It sparkled in the last streak of daylight. Flipping her over once again, He grabbed the muzzle and angrily strapped it on her.
Standing proudly up right, he commanded "Team. Let's head on out. The boat is waiting."
More members of the SWAT team assisted the two. Four members in total picked her up like a coffin. The roar of another engine arrived. A sturdy looking green truck appeared. On the back was a large built in cage. Two soldiers stood beside the entrance to the cage.
Suddenly her face changed from angry to petrified. She looked at the cage and recognized it. It was the one that brought her here. It was the same truck that drove her. They were taking her back.
Her breathing quickened. A clear black tear welled in her eye. Out of instinct she twitched, attempting to shake herself back to life. The soldiers loaded her. Her body hitting the floor of the cage with a thud. The cage door closed and she was in the darkness. Except for the small rectangle that allowed ventilation.
She rocked herself up, feeling very dizzy, her eyes peeping through the hole she saw them still surrounded by the team. The truck started with a jerk and knocked her off her feet. her muzzle collided with the metal structure and gave off an echoing clang. Her soul was crushed. She began wailing. She felt the earth beneath the truck move taking her away from everything she had ever truly loved.Claire remembered hearing the deafening cries from the crate. She might not have known the hybrid that well. But she knew it did not deserve the life it was given. Claire remembered screaming after the vehicle once the soldiers had left and driven off, "Protect my daughter! Protect her! Keep her safe!" She was unsure if the hybrid heard her. But she had faith.
"He said something about a boat didn't he?" Grey said.
Claire looked at him. "What?"
"A boat. They going on a boat." Grey replied.
"He did say that." Ellie murmured.
"That's odd." Alan added, "As far as I can remember, there's only one working harbor near here. All the others were shut down because of dinosaur invasion, this one only stayed up since it's illegal."
"What are we waiting for? Let's go!" Grey yelled in excitement.
"No." Claire said sternly. Everyone looked at her shocked. "You aren't coming. Owen and I are."
"What! Why?" Grey said.
"It's too dangerous."
"But I can help."
"You need to look after your brother." Claire finally said. She glanced for a minute at Zach who lay in the backseat. She bit her lip. "If it's not too much to ask, I need people I can trust to look after Zach and Grey..."
Ellie immediately stepped in, "We'd love to." Alan rolled his eyes to that.
"We also need a plan." Owen said.
