Lisa loved birthdays. It didn't matter if it were her own or someone else's; she simply loved to celebrate.
However, this birthday was the most exciting one Lisa had since it was the first one she could celebrate with her moody, stoic, murderous girlfriend, who she loved more than her stuffed animal collection.
The couple slept in late before Lisa spent the majority of the day with her friends who treated her to all-expenses paid shopping trip and spa day.
Lisa wanted Jennie to accompany her but she knew that was an impossibility.
But that didn't matter. As soon as Lisa returned to her dorm, she dropped her shopping bags in awe. Before her, the couple's dorm had been transformed into a massive tent decorated with fairy lights, flowers, stars, pillows, fluffy blankets, and a plethora of stuffed animals. In the middle of the tent stood Jenniewith her braids freed and her body clad in baby-blue shorts with paw prints on them and an oversized green t-shirt with a turtle and the words, 'Turtley Awesome' printed on it.
They were Lisa's pyjamas. Pyjamas of which Lisa begged Jennie to wear because she would look, "so cute in them" but naturally, Jennie refused. Yet, there she was and Lisa squealed in delight.
"Jennie!" Lisa tackled her girlfriend in a tight hug.
"Happy birthday, Jagiya."
"I love it!" Lisa kissed the girl fervently. "Oh, Jen, this is so cute! Is this what you were up to all day?"
"Indeed. I had to take several intermissions as the brightness gave me headaches."
"It's beautiful, Jen. I'm guessing Ella helped you?"
"Yes, since She wouldn't let me make our room into a dungeon, we opted for this. We both agreed you would like this better."
"And you were right," Lisa kissed her again. "Thank you, baby. It's so beautiful. You're so beautiful! Look at you in my PJ's!"
"One photo and you die."
"Jen, I HAVE to take a photo! Who knows when I'll see you again like this!"
Jennie sighed. "Fine, but if you show it to anyone, you die."
Lisa ignored the comment, uttering, "It's going to be my wallpaper on all my devices. I'll probably have to make a collage because I know I won't be able to pick just one photo..."
Jennie rolled her eyes but Lisa simply kissed her cheek. "I have prepared your favourite pizza - meat supreme - and Ella will bring your dessert afterward. I decided that you should pick a film for us to watch whilst we eat dinner - any film of your choice."
Lisa's eyes widened. "Any film?"
"Don't make me regret it, Lili."
The Younger squealed again and peppered Jennie's face with kisses. "Love you, baby! Let me get into my PJ's!"
Lisa was so excited she nearly tripped on her feet several times while she changed.
Jennie had really gone above and beyond for her Lisa had never felt so loved.
Nobody had ever taken such thought and effort into her birthday. Sure, she always had good birthday's but this was undoubtedly the best.
Everything about it was so Lisa, from the fairy lights to the colourful sheets and pillows littering the floor.
She could only imagine how disgusted Jennie was when she began decorating but that's exactly why Lisa loved her - Jennie would undergo every form of torture just to make Lisa happy.
She often questioned how she managed to find such a wonderful Girlfriend.
They were opposites in every sense of the word, yet they were perfect for one another.
No matter what life threw at them, Lisa knew nothing could break their bond. There was no bond like a Soulmate bond.
"Ready!" Lisa sang and rushed to Jennie who snuggled with her under the blankets.
Naturally, Lisa picked a god-awful rom-com and she could feel her girlfriend wither away with each passing scene. A rom-com for Jennie was the equivalent to a horror film for Lisa.
"Thank you for the best birthday, Jen," Lisa kissed the girl's cheek. "I loved it so much. You're so good to me."
"It's not over yet, Lili.. Ella!"
Seconds later, Jennie's Niece entered carrying a tray with two sundae cutely. The first - cookies and cream ice cream decorated with rainbow sprinkles, mini marshmallows, gummy bears, Skittles, and M&M's. The second - black ice cream with crushed Oreo's.
"So, which one is mine?" Teased Lisa, earning her a stare from her girlfriend. "Thank you, baby," another kiss to Jennie's cheek. "And thank you, too, Ella I love everything you and your aunt have done!."
Ella Smiled brightly mirroring her aunt's gummy smile before wishing her a happy birthday before scurrying off.
"There is one thing left..." Jennie spoke once they finished their dessert.
The dark-haired girl gave Lisa a small, black box that sat snuggly in her palm.
"Jen..."
"Happy birthday, Lili. Open it."
With her heart racing, Lisa was left speechless as a golden necklace with a large diamond stared at her. Yet, it was no ordinary diamond, but a pink one. It was so pink it could have been described as a hot pink.
"Jen... How the Hell did you get this?"
"It's been in my family for generations. It's one of our most precious heirlooms. Such heirlooms are only to be given to other members within the family or to the ones we hold dear. I was unsure of what to gift you on this day, but I knew I wanted something that would weigh substantially with meaning and promise. My parent's suggested an heirloom and I chose this one."
"Oh, Jennie... It's beautiful... But I can't-"
"You can accept it, Lisa. In fact, I hope you do as this is a promise from me to you. By accepting this necklace, I promise that you will have my black heart and twisted soul."
"Literally or figuratively?"
"Both," she smirked. "It is a token of my devotion to you. It's a promise that I will be there when you need me and that you are the only living creature on this earth who has the only thing nobody else can obtain - my love. As much as I have done to deny, reject, and ignore it, I have experienced the notion of love and have accepted that you are the only person who can provoke me into such a state. I love you, Lisa - with every fibre of my being, I do."
Lisa sobbed as she threw herself at her girlfriend. There was no doubt Jennie was her other half, her best friend, her confidant, her lover, her mate. She couldn't see herself with anybody else nor did she want to; she was just so in love with Jennie.
"Yes, baby," uttered the blonde. "I'll accept this necklace."
The icing on the cake for Lisa was Jennie's smile - broad and bright.
"Put it on me," Lisa requested.
The diamond was heavy and cold as it rested upon Lisa's chest. The shine of pink and gold projected onto the white fabric of the tent. It glistened brighter than the biggest star.
"Beautiful, Lili," said Jennie. "Simply beautiful."
"Jen ..." Lisa rested her forehead against Jennie's. "I love you so much."
"I love you, too, and happy birthday."
Happy birthday to my source of happiness Lisa!
