After my doctors appointment, my arm is officially (what feels like) ten lbs lighter. Despite having been told that it was just an X-ray to see if my cast was ready to come off, after doing the X-ray they had a cancellation from the next patient so decided to take it off right then and there. I return to the office later that day and Nanami congratulates me first as soon as I see him in the lobby. Of course Nanami would notice, he's one of the most observant people I've ever met.
As I sit at my desk, I hear a knock at my door and Toji steps in.
"How did you- oh, you got your cast off." He says as he walks towards me. A surprised expression crosses my features at the fact he noticed, and I hold my arm up, clenching and unclenching my hand repeatedly to show its new mobility.
"Yeah, earlier today." I say before turning to the papers below me on my desk.
"I wanted to ask you how you got on with Megumi." Toji says and I shoot him a confused expression in response, putting down the pen from my hand and crossing my arms over one another.
"Got on with him? He seems very hardworking." I tell Toji and he rolls his eyes in response.
"You need to keep an eye on him. He can be troublesome." He says and I shrug my shoulders.
"I'll take your word for it." I tell him, but that wasn't the impression I got from Megumi at all, this sounds like it might be a Toji problem... "Is there anything else you need?" He hesitates for a second before shaking his head.
"But the firm is planning to take Satoru and his associates out for drinks tomorrow evening, I thought I should let you know." He says with a small smile. I grit my teeth at the sound of this, it's usually the person working on the transaction's job who organises these types of things, but no, Toji has been trying to hijack Satoru ever since Nanami assigned his acquisition for me to handle.
"Thanks for letting me know."
"You're welcome." Toji replies before leaving my office. As soon as he does so, I pull my phone out hurriedly and ring Satoru. If Toji gets to him first then it will look kind of bad, like I'm not even in control of my own client. Unsurprisingly, Satoru is at the top of my call list.
The dial tone rings a few times before he eventually picks up.
"Y/n?" He asks, slightly surprised.
"Satoru, tomorrow evening-"
"I know." He says and I slap my hand against my forehead. "Fushiguro already invited me on behalf of the firm." I let out a sigh as Satoru falls silent on the other end of the phone. "He kind of went behind your back."
"I should have arranged it earlier. He was just being diligent." I lie through my teeth. If I can save face in front of Satoru, the client, things might not be so bad. I hear Satoru let out a lengthy exhale from the other end of the phone, and his words from a few days ago flash through my mind, when he told me I didn't enjoy my job. Do I enjoy my job? I guess there's some parts that-
"Y/n?" Satoru interrupts me through my train of destructive thought.
"Yeah?"
"I won't let Toji take my acquisition away from you. Even if he reassigns it somehow, I'd always ask for you." He says and I feel at a loss for words. Satoru would really do that? "Anyway, I'll see you tomorrow evening I guess..."
"See you then." I reply, trying to sound as normal as I can.
"Wear something nice, kay? Bye." He responds before dialing off quickly, knowing I would have something to say about that last remark he made. I can't help but laugh at his behaviour, he really has changed since I first met him.
