Lene parks her car in the parking lot of her college's local cafe. She's meeting up with her friends, Vic, Citrine, and Courtney, to study. Studying was half an excuse for them to just hang out since there was really nothing for them to be studying for, at least for the moment. They were probably gonna chat for more than half the time they're there then go to the twins' small apartment nearby to play games. It was the friend group's usual cycle.
The trio that had already arrived are weirdly huddled up together looking down, presumable at a screen to watch a video, as they usually do. Citrine looks up to wave at Lene when she walked up to the table.
"What you guys looking at?" Lene asks.
"A fancam of Ryujin that has been blowing up on tiktok," Citrine answers then takes a sip of her drink. Courtney is practically giggling at her screen which Lene rolls her eyes at.
"I don't get what's so great abt your kpop idols, they're just pretty people on a screen that dance and sing," Lene says. The three of them look up simultaneously, obviously offended. Courtney whips her phone screen around and almost shoves it in Lene's face.
"There's no way you can watch this and say she's not literally sooooooo attractive, I DARE you," she looks straight into Lene's eyes, knowing Lene cannot deny the idol's impressive stage presence.
Despite the video being centered on Ryujin, Lene's eyes couldn't help but be drawn to another girl, right next to the dark haired idol.
"Who's that girl?" Lene points curiously towards a ginger on the screen.
"Oh that's Hwang Yeji, the group's leader...................ARE YOU INTERESTED?" Courtney practically yells in shock, all the cafe customers turn to look at their table with disapproving stares. "Oh..oops, sorry.."
This was the first time Lene had remotely ever shown interest in anything kpop related her friends had forced her to watch or listen to. She was honestly ignorant of the topic, she didn't really like the genre since she thought it was mainly just bts or bp and she hated the song butter.
"I just thought she was pretty, not much to it," Lene replies in denial, for some reason she knew that giving her friends the satisfaction of her successful conversion to kpop after all the time she spent hating it would be something they might not let go for years.
"Uhuhhhh" the trio said in unison, clearly full of doubt.
And that moment was what sparked Lene's never ending obsession with Hwang Yeji of Itzy.
