I walked into Snape's room and immediately regret not bringing a jacket. The dark cold brought a shiver down my spine and caused neat rows of goose bumps to form all across my olive skin. I wrapped my robe around myself tighter and smiled up at Professor Snape partially because I had been trying to get on his good side since first year and partially out of pure relief that I had made it to class on time. He glanced at me judgmentally as I plopped down in my seat next to my good friend Alice. Her Slytherin robes had been perfectly pressed and her glossy brown had been placed in a neat bun low on the back of her head. I secretly envied her ability to be so well put together even at 8:00 am on a Friday.
She looked up at me smiling her chirpy voice making it apparent that she had had enough time to go get a cup of coffee and eat breakfast before class. "Good Morning! I'm guessing you over slept? Your shirt is buttoned wrong by the way" she teased.
I rolled my eyes and blushed trying my best to cover my messy appearance with my robe. "Whatever" I mumbled taking my book out of my bag and searching the mess at the bottom for quill in which I had apparently forgotten to pack in my rush out the door. I sighed in defeat before looking up to see a fresh quill and ink bottle sitting right on top of my book and Alice smiling at me. "You're a life saver" I giggled stopping myself before I leaned in for a hug as I remembered her absolute hate of physical contact.
"Oh I know," she said sitting up a little straighter her gray eyes showing a hint of joy at hearing my approval. "I was-"
"Good morning Dracy-Poo!" She was cut off suddenly by Pansy Parkinson who had just entered the class already alerted everyone else in the room of her undying love for the disinterested and miserable Draco Malfoy. Like the squad we are Alice and I both turned without even a word to watch the two of them interact. I had never personally talked to either Draco or Pansy but from the things Alice told me about them I don't think I would want to. However, we could both agree that watching them interact was even better than reality t.v.
Draco turned away from the girl quickly scribbling something on a loose piece of parchment and handing it too Blaise who sat in the row in front of me. I strained my neck in order to see what it said because I am a snoop and I really need to learn to mind my own business only to have Blaise turn to me a smirk playing across his lips and press into his sculpted features forcing his usually dark eyes to brighten slightly. He nodded at me curtly "Elm" he greeted me using my last name as if it was a simple hello. I wouldn't exactly call Blaise and I friends, we were more like awkward acquaintances. Blaise had hated me our first year at Hogwarts purely because of my blood status. He was the first person I had met in my whole entire life to actually hate me. Poor little eleven year old me simply did not know how to react so I did everything I could to make him not hate me. Every glare he threw my way was met with a bright smile and every time he called me a mudblood or something along those lines I would simply smile wider and remind him that my name was Scarlet and that was what I preferred to be called. His hate for me had naturally died down over the five years we had known each other and even better sometime last year he had started treating me like an actual human being. Although Blaise and I were now on some what good terms an uncomfortable sensation still lingered in my chest every time we spoke. Since him I had met others who had hated me for the same reasons but he was the first, and I don't think I would ever get over the way it stung when he judged me based on the blood running through my veins and not the words coming out of my mouth. But still I smiled at him hiding my emotions as I had since the day I met him.
"morning Blaise!" I responded trying to act as if I wasn't just snooping on his note.
"What happened to your glasses?" He asked cocking his head to the side in confusion.
As if on cue I noticed that the outline of Blaise's figure was rather fuzzy and as he spun his quill in his hand all I could see was a blurry blob. "Shit I left them in my room, I was kind of in a rush this morning" I cursed slapping my hand across the desk silently praying for the wide rimmed black glasses to grow wings and fly there way onto my face.
Blaise laughed, "That explains why you're wearing a black bra with a white shirt, which is buttoned wrong by the way" he bit his lip and I suddenly noticed his eyes had been on my chest the whole time we were talking...scumbag
"So I've been told" I mumbled before turning back to Malfoy and Parkinson, I could only handle so much Blaise a day before I wanted to melt into a sword and stab him with my face.
I had missed quite a bit as far as the Draco/Pansy situation in the time I had spent talking to Blaise. By now Pansy was claiming that her chair was broken and that she had no choice but to sit on his lap...poor girl. Draco was still completely ignoring her, I have to hand it to the guy, he sure knew how to block people out. Her hand was slowly rising its way up his lap causing Alice's eyes to widen and her mouth to form into an 'O' shape when Draco had finally had enough.
"Professor, I need a new partner" he stated the frustration clear in his voice as he completely interrupted the lecture Snape had begun about a minute ago.
Snape sighed but didn't scold him and instead obeyed his wishes "Miss Elm, switch seats with Miss Parkinson. Malfoy, please don't interrupt my class again." He then continued on with his lecture acting as if he hadn't just caused me to practically choke on air as the whole class erupted in whispers all eyes turning to me.
I blushed at the attention being far from used to it as I put my things back in my bag and turned to Alice trying my best to hide the excitement in my face. I had had a huge crush on Draco since we had started at Hogwarts but I knew he didn't feel the same way seeing that he had every reason not too.
Alice just laughed at me shaking her head "Sucks to be you" she said not caring who heard her.
I just sighed and walked over to the empty seat besides Draco.
