Muggle studies was boring. But I had expected that. The boringness had almost become a comfort amongst the constant excitement of a day at Hogwarts. The numb sense of dullness was familiar to the point of relief that only presented itself when Ms. Burbage began to drone on and on. I'm not saying I enjoy being constantly on the verge of sleep for an hour but I am saying that on a day where I know that after that hour I will be forced to cancel plans with some ridiculously attractive poophead who never fails to make me feel weird with a single glance in my direction I'll take what I can get by means of procrastination.
At least I was out of the dungeon. That place was so freakin cold at all times it was ridiculous, especially first thing in the morning. Even though there was never mildew falling from the ceiling and the shelves housed books instead of torture instruments the room was spooky enough to go without. It didn't help that Snape always kept it so dark, I could barely see my books without the light of a candle especially when I forgot my glasses (which was next to always). Compared to potions, muggle studies was a cake walk.
I tried to entertain myself by thinking about care of magical creatures (my favorite class) which I had right after lunch. We just finished a small unit on merpeople and I couldn't wait to find out what we would be learning about next. The endless possibilities made me smile. I was a fairly good student, not the best not the worst, but when I found a subject I was passionate about I didn't hesitate to geek out. Being muggle born the fact that these creatures existed was enough to send me into a state of shock but the ability to learn about them was beyond incredible. It didn't hurt that Hagrid was an awesome teacher either.
I continued to day dream about unicorns and thestrals until the end of class. The sound of the bell sending a sharp shiver down my spine like a merciless sword unwilling to here my pleas for mercy as it stole my last moments of happiness...okay that might be an exaggeration but I was still scared shitless to talk to Malfoy. I didn't even know how to go about approaching him. I often visited the Slytherin table to talk to Alice but she sat far away from Malfoy and his clan so I hardly ever had to deal with them. They were almost like a completely different breed of Slytherin, the kind that were here because of blood not because of their individual person. It was a ridiculous idea that they would allow there individuality to be swallowed up by blood lines and last names, one that seemed to go against the idea of a proud strong willed person that Slytherin's aspire to be. They obviously weren't all they pretended to be and yet I still couldn't get that knot of fear to leave my stomach. I guess it had something to do with the mysterious grey sea of Draco's eyes that I knew I couldn't fall into or else I would never be able to get out of it. Or maybe it was the way my stomach tied itself into a tight clenched not every time Pansy Parkinson dragged her long pale fingers across his shoulder even though I tried my hardest to convince myself I didn't care. I don't think that was it but it might of been...
I didn't have anymore time to consider as I felt Ron's large calloused hand clench onto my shoulder as he spoke, "Good luck with the prick, let me know how it goes". He smiled at me goofily before heading to the great hall. I sighed and plugged in my headphones before following him.
