CHAPTER FORTY ONE
DRAGONS AND BALL ROOM DANCING

"Bets! Place your bets!" The Weasley twins called out as they walked through the stands.

It was officially time for the first task. Dragons.

Emery placed herself beside Draco. She didn't know who she was rooting for. She didn't know whether to root for Harry: her best friend or Jesse: her potential crush.

Either way, she was rooting for someone. But she wasn't gonna place a bet.

"Do either of you have any manners?" Emery scoffed as the Weasley twins walked by her.

Fred leaned down beside her, "manners? Never heard of them." Fred chuckled before walking off with George.

———

Once everyone had their go at fighting their dragon, it was finally time for Harry to battle his dragon.

Emery held her breath as people started to chant Harry's name and he walked out.

It went silent as Harry spotted the golden egg and began to make his way towards it before a large tail whipped him away.

Emery squinted her eyes shut, too scared to reopen them but she did when she felt a hand grab hers in comfort: Draco's hand.

He was focused on the game. He didn't glance at her once, afraid to see a look of disgust. But instead, Emery's cheeks turned pink as she focused back on Harry who had just pulled his wand out of his robe.

"Accio fire bolt!" Harry casted making his broomstick fly towards him, he quickly hopped on, just managed to dodge away from the dragon.

Harry flew over the stadium, thinking he got away. But he didn't.

The dragon broke free from its chains and chased Harry out of the stadium.

The stadium went quiet as Emery looked around for any sign of Harry, Emery's eyes met Ron and Hermione's, they both looked at Emery with the same confusion as they shrugged before Harry came flying back.

His broomstick was slightly on fire but that didn't stop him from grabbing the golden egg.

———

"I see you guys made up." Emery said as she sat beside Harry and Ron, "you did a good job today, Harry. I'm sorry I ever doubted you." Emery apologised, Harry smiled accepting her apology.

"Look at this!" Hermione exclaimed, shoving the daily prophet in their faces, "I can't believe it! She's done it again."

"Miss Granger, a plain but ambitious girl seems to be developing a taste for famous wizards. Her latest prey, sources report, is none other than the Bulgarian bonbon, Viktor Krum." Emery read aloud before facing Hermione, "you like Krum?!"

"No!" Hermione denied before Nigel walked towards Ron.

"Parcel for you Mr. Weasley." Nigel smiled as he handed Ron a box.

"My mum sent me something." Ron spoke excitedly as he opened the package, "mum sent me a dress." Ron frowned as he held his present in the air making Emery chuckle.

"It suits you." Emery nodded jokingly, "Is there a bonnet?" Emery searched through the package for a bonnet, "ah!" She exclaimed, handing the bonnet to Ron.

"Very funny, Emery." Ron rolled his eyes before walking towards Ginny, "Ginny, these must be for you."

"I'm not wearing that, it's ghastly." Ginny retorted making Hermione laugh.

"What are you on about?" Ron turned towards Hermione.

"They're not for Ginny. They're for you!" Hermione chuckled, "dress robes."

"Dress robes? For what?" Ron asked.

———

"The Yule Ball has been a tradition for the Triwizard Tournament since its inception." McGonagall spoke, everyone gathered in the ball room, "on Christmas Eve night, we and our guests gather in the great hall for a night of well mannered frivolity. As representatives of the host school I expect each and every one of you to put your best foot forward. And I mean this literally because The Yule Ball is, first and foremost a dance."

McGonagall paused as constant chatter filled the room, Emery looked up at Draco who was sitting across from her.

"Silence!" McGonagall called out, Emery looking away from Draco, "the house of Godric Gryffindor has commanded the respect of the wizard world for nearly 10 centuries. I will not have you, in the course of a single evening, besmirching that name by behaving like a babbling, bumbling band of baboons. Now, to dance is to let the body breathe."

McGonagall turned towards the girls side of the room, "inside every girl, a secret swan slumbers longing to burst forth and take flight." She turned towards the boys, "inside every boy, a lordly lion prepared to prance. Mr. Weasley." McGonagall walked towards Ron.

"Yes?" Ron spoke shyly.

"Will you join me, please?" McGonagall asked, holding out her hand.

Ron stood up awkwardly as they walked towards the dance floor.

"Now, place your right hand on my waist." McGonagall instructed.

"Where?" Ron asked in shock.

"My waist." McGonagall repeated before Ron placed his hand on her waist and Filch put on a slow song before they started to waltz.

Emery chuckled before McGonagall spoke again, "everybody come together." McGonagall instructed, all the girls stood up at once as the boys stayed seated, "boys, on your feet!" Neville was the first, and only boy to stand up and practice his waltz.
