Will's Party

The room was heaving, an almost living organism of people ebbed and flowed through the space. The air was hot and thick and choked all those sober enough to notice, to any outsider this would simply look like the kind off feral house party most British teenagers would experience from the ages of 13-18 but if you knew where to look, the truth of the room was far more sinister.

Fliss sat in the bathroom, safe from the throngs of people that threatened to sweep her up downstairs. She knew better than to enter that horde of drunk teens, in her world alcohol was no more than a recipe for disaster and so she avoided it with all her might. Will had invited her, a tall boy with dark brown hair and hazel eyes, he was popular but not in the nasty way where people fear you more than actually like you. Will was kind, he treated everyone equally and everyone wanted to be his friend, he was respected not only for his parents wealth but also for his entire lack of ego. Fliss , on the contrary was neither respected nor rich, long blonde hair ran down her back and thick round rimmed glasses hide her green eyes, if she had been smaller perhaps the majority of the school would've thought she was pretty but Fliss was not small. She was tall, she had curves, her body was soft and round and chose books over people and so no, Fliss was not respected because she wasn't wanted. At Meadowland Grammar value came from desire, if you were attractive and wanted then you maintained value and status and if you weren't attractive then you were almost invisible. Fliss was invisible.

The music hummed downstairs, loud bass music that threaded its way into Fliss 's chest and made her feel sick. Will had told her it was going to be small, begged her to come and told her to dress cute so when she'd walked in to the house with a black dress on and a big grey cardigan and seen almost everyone she went to school with she'd almost sprinted up to the safety of upstairs.

"Wya pumpkin?" Will text, him and Fliss had been secret best friends since year 7 and pumpkin had been an inside joke for almost as long.

"upstairs bathroom, you're a liar." Fliss shot back, she was only half joking, a semi smile forming on her lips as she pressed send.

"I'm sorry, go and sit in my room and i'll come rescue you" Will replied, he was sweet like that, always bailing Fliss out of situations he knew she didn't want to partake in.

Fliss smiled, popped her phone into her pocket and slowly eased herself off the floor and to the door. She cracked it open tentatively, as if a monster was going to be sat behind it waiting to pounce, but there was no monster, only the shouts of drunken teens and heavy house music. Closing the door behind, Fliss walked swiftly to Will's room and plonked herself onto his bed. Will's room was massive, dark grey paint lined every wall and each square inch of them were covered in band posters, pictures and fairy lights. Black sheets on his king sized bed fit nicely in with the 'grungey band punk aesthetic' Will had desperately tried to justify to Fliss when he was designing his room. She kicked off her shoes, rummaged for a blanket from the box labelled 'snuggly stuff' and loaded up an episode of American Horror Story on Will's TV, his house was her second home and she was sure Will wouldn't mind.

After three episodes and several back and forths between Fliss and Will that mostly consisted of very drunk messages from Will and Fliss reassuring him that she was fine and for him to have fun, Fliss felt sleep begin to wash over her, shooting Will a final message to tell him she was going to be asleep in his bed and to under no circumstance let anyone in it with her, she pushed herself further under the blanket and closed her eyes.

She woke to a loud banging on the door, three heavy thumps startled her awake and pushed a cold through her veins,
"Will I swear to god if that's you were gonna fall out" she called out, reaching for her phone.
"You'd never fall out with me pumpkin, cmon let me in, I brought you a friend" Will slurred, as he fell into the door, pushing it open.
A tall girl stood behind him, she seemed relatively sober and Fliss didn't recognise her. She was thin, black hair pushed up into a messy ponytail and wearing ripped black mum jeans and a red shirt, her clothes seemed to be three sizes too big for her and she gave Fliss a "I'm sorry" smile as she looked down at Will who was now almost asleep in the doorway.
"You're gonna have to get up and give me a hand, Princess", the girl said, her eyes smiling as she looked between Fliss and Will and then back again.
Fliss swallowed, who was this girl and why was she warm?
She got up, pushing the blanket off her legs and wrapping it around her shoulders, bending down to talk to Will, she saw the girl looking down at her, examining her.
"Cmon chicken, you've got to get up for me" Fliss said gently.
Will looked up at her, eyes squinting in the drunken dark and nodded lightly as Fliss and the girl heaved him up between them and carefully dumped him on the leather sofa next to his desk,
"Oh I do love you Fliss ," Will slurred as he closed his eyes.

The girl seemed almost as awkward as Fliss felt, her eyes were almost black, and never stopped flickering between the floor, the bed and Fliss .
"I suppose I can't leave him here with you," she said, "he's out like a light and you don't seem like the type of girl to be able to deal with this."
Fliss rolled her eyes, of course she'd think that, this mystery girl who didn't know her had taken one look at her and decided that Fliss was too weak to look after her own best friend, she was seething.
"No no I'll be fine, you can go," Fliss smiled, trying to maintain calm.
"Fliss , that's what Will called you, nice name, are you like his girlfriend or something? Worried I'm gonna try and sleep with him in the night, Princess? Cuz I can promise you I don't swing that way, especially not for Will, I just want to make sure he's okay." Mystery girl replied, her eyes burning a hole into Fliss.
Fliss looked at her, considered that maybe Will did indeed have other friends who cared for him the way she did, and smiled at the girl, she could stay if she cared about Will.
"One, I'm not Will's girlfriend. Two, my friend's call me Fliss but to you, it's Felicity. Three, if you want to spend the night with me you at least need to tell me your name", Fliss looked at her, eyes fierce and attempted to make herself seem taller.
"It's Rin, to my friends, Katherine to you because as you've stated, we're not friends. Are you too shy to share a bed with the big bad lesbian sweetheart, worried I'm gonna turn you?", Rin looked up at Fliss, her mouth upturning slightly as she looked her up and down, as if she was trying to predict what Fliss was going to see.
"Can't turn me if I'm already gay," Fliss shrugged as she took off her cardigan.
Her arms were beautiful, winding flower tattoos spread from her fingers to her neck on each arm, threaded between them were bees and butterflies, small italic calligraphy danced around the vines her arms were a story book come to life and Rin struggled to take her eyes off them.
"My Dad's a tattoo artist, they were my 17th Birthday present", Fliss said, noting Rin's look of shock at her intricate tattoos.
Rin nodded, her eyes dropping to the low cut neckline of Fliss' dress and the dragon tattoos snuggled in each collarbone of her chest, her eyes moved lower, taking in the folds of skin, her boobs, the way her waist dipped in and how gently her hips and thighs came out, how not a single line on her was harsh but soft and delicate.
"What?" Fliss questioned, suddenly feeling uncomfortable under Rin's piercing eyes.
"What am I not allowed to look at you hm?" She snapped back.
"No not when your looking at me like you want to, i don't know, eat me" Fliss exclaimed.
"Oh darling, I'm gonna do a lot more than just eat you."
