(contd from the description)
We all turned to the spot where Hyunjin was pointing, and our eyes fell on a bruised, unconscious girl lying in the shadows. My heart stopped for a second before instinct took over. I motioned for the others. "Quick, come on!" I shouted, running over to her. Her face was pale, and there were cuts and bruises on her arms and legs, some still bleeding. Her dress was torn, her knee badly scraped, and her breathing was shallow.
"Lix, Jisung, give me your jackets!" I called, my voice tense. They immediately pulled off their jackets, and I wrapped them around her to keep her warm. As I lifted her, her head lolled slightly, and I tightened my grip, steadying her fragile frame.
"Seungmin, open the door!" I ordered as I hurried inside, carrying her to the couch. Carefully, I laid her down, her breaths faint but steady, her face twitching slightly as if she was reliving something in her sleep. Changbin appeared beside me, already clutching a first-aid kit in his hands.
"Hyung, we need to do something quick," he said, his voice laced with worry.
I nodded, pulling open the kit. My hands worked methodically as I cleaned her wounds, dabbing away dried blood and bandaging the deeper cuts. As I worked, I felt for her pulse and realized with a start that it was faint, too faint.
"Guys," I said urgently, looking over my shoulder, "start the van. We're taking her to the hospital. Now."
Hours later, I was pacing the hospital corridor, my thoughts racing, a blend of worry and confusion. Dr. Park finally emerged from the examination room, his face grave as he looked at me. I took a deep breath, steadying myself.
"Chan, I know you, so I don't mean to accuse you, but..." he paused, choosing his words carefully. "This girl... she looks like someone really hurt her, badly. Do you have any idea who would do something like this?"
I shook my head. "I don't know who she is," I said quietly, glancing through the small glass window into her room, where I could just see her still form beneath the covers. "I don't even know her name."
Dr. Park's expression softened. "I see. Well, her condition is critical, to be honest. She's going to need around-the-clock care—gentle care, like you'd give a baby. Her injuries are severe, and her physical state suggests prolonged trauma. Do you have any idea how old she might be? And... who she is, really?"
"No clue," I replied, running a hand through my hair. "But if what you're saying is true..." I trailed off, my chest tightening. "Is she at least conscious?"
"Yes, but she's in a fragile mental state. We've noticed she reacts strongly to anything even remotely sharp or fast-moving. It's like she's instinctively frightened." He sighed. "We're doing everything we can, but she'll need more than physical treatment. Therapy, patience... if she's going to recover from whatever she's been through."
I swallowed hard, feeling a protective instinct rising in me. "Understood. Thank you, Dr. Park. We'll try to find out who she is and see if we can contact her family."
Dr. Park gave me a nod of understanding. "She's been through something horrible, Chris. If you find her family or anyone who might know her story, it could make a big difference in her recovery. Just... be gentle with her."
I glanced through the glass one last time. Her frail body lay unmoving on the hospital bed, and I felt a deep responsibility settle within me. Whoever she was, whatever she'd been through, she wasn't alone anymore. We would help her find peace—no matter how long it took.
