We pulled up to the dorms, and I parked the car just outside the gate. Lisa was fast asleep, her head tilted against the window, a peaceful expression softening her usually guarded features. I couldn't help but smile at the sight, but when I gently tried to wake her, she only mumbled unintelligibly before slipping back into sleep. Her grip on the rabbit she held tightened, a subconscious anchor in her slumber.
"Lisa, wake up," I murmured, giving her another gentle shake, but she remained deeply asleep, lost in a world of exhaustion. It was as if all the sleepless nights and tireless struggles from her time in the orphanage had finally caught up with her.
"Jisung?" Chan's voice broke through the moment as he approached the car. "Weren't you at the gym with Minho and Changbin?"
"I wanted to see her in person, but found something wasn't right," I explained quickly. "She's in a deep sleep. Help me lift her to her bed."
Without hesitation, Chan moved to help, effortlessly lifting her from the car. Her head rested on his shoulder, her arms instinctively wrapping around him, almost as if seeking comfort and security even in her unconscious state. It was a vulnerable sight, a stark contrast to the tough exterior she often projected.
As we entered the dorm, the others, minus Minho and Changbin, who were still at the gym, gathered around, concern etched on their faces.
"What happened?" they all asked, their voices filled with worry.
I recounted the events.
-after explanation-
Why did it get quiet?
Are they listening?
As I turned toward them, I observed their collective shock, though one individual was notably absent: Chan hyung. Venturing into Lisa's room, I discovered him seated beside her, gently caressing her slumbering figure.
"We cannot rely on any other orphanage," he proclaimed solemnly. "She will be a part of our family from this moment forward."
"Hyung," I murmured as I settled beside him. "I used to believe that I faced the toughest struggles in my life... But seeing her, I realize how sheltered I've been. Remember how the mere word 'murderer' would send her into a panic? And how we found her injured outside our dorm?"
"Yeah," he sighed, his expression heavy with remorse. "I can't shake off the guilt of leaving her at the orphanage."
"But the past is behind us," Jeongin interjected, joining us. "From now on, she's our little sister."
She stirred slightly, her words barely coherent as she clung to Chan's jacket for comfort, a silent reminder of the bond we shared.
