Laerra stood in her now chambers that had windows that were cut out of the wall that her bed was facing. The only comfort was that she wouldn't be as cold as Driftmark. Candles were lining the walls as well as beside her bed.

It was square with several plush blankets, but she rolled them up to use the thin one. She had a maid to help her into her nightgown that she had brought from Driftmark. She thanked the maid, who left the room.

As she was sitting on her bed, she heard a knock. She jumped up and held herself with her arms. "It is only me, my lady." The voice says, and she recognized it from her wedding. It was her husband. Dorian.

She hurried to the door, opening it a little to see him in his night clothes holding a plate of cake. She felt a smile when she saw the cake. It was like the one she ate with her siblings.

"Your brother had asked it to be made. But he wanted me to bring it to you." He tells her, making her nod. She opened the door further, and he walked in, still quite nervous.

"Where shall I set it?" He asked, looking at her as she closed the door. She looked around the room and hurried over to the small desk that had been leaned on the far wall. She took everything off it and lifted it to the center of the room.

"You could've asked." He told her, making her shrug as she lifted a chair and placed it beside him before getting her own. "Would you like a blanket?" She asked as he set the cake down with two forks that she pretended she overlooked.

"Oh no, I have lived here my entire life. I am quite used to it." Dorian tells her, making her nod as she grabs a plush blanket, wrapping it around her shoulders. She sat on the chair, followed by Dorian, sitting on his own.

"I assume my brother wants us to get along." She tells him as she picks up the fork and takes a piece. "Does this cake mean goodwill?" He asked, taking his piece and eating it.

"He would always have this cake made, and we would eat it in my chambers away from our parents. Though I think Mother knew." She told him, making him smile at their family bond. "I notice you haven't any brothers or sisters." She stated but then covered her mouth.

"I apologize. I should not have-" Dorian waved her off before saying, "My Mother is pregnant. Though she has not been for long." Laerra smiled, saying, "She shall be my friend."

The two shared a smile as they continued to eat the cake. Once they both finished the cake, they sat back in silence with only the noise of wind coming from the window. "You should rest." He says, standing and grabbing the plate.

"As should you." She says as she stands and follows him to the door. She opened it, making him smile, "Thank you, my lady." He says, causing a smile break on her face.

"Rest well." She tells him as she closes it behind him and looks at the table. She glanced at the items disregarded on a bench and decided to move them elsewhere. She walked over, placing them on another table on the other side of the room.

She pushed the chairs into the table, deciding to leave the table as it was. It made it feel like she was making the room her own, as she would somehow belong now.

She walked toward her now bed, pulled the blankets up, and slipped in. The bed was comfortable and warm like hers on Driftmark, making her feel more safe and secure. She fell asleep soon after with the blankets up to her chin.
